The Quad with some third party Focal pads is really something special too. The Focal pads are flat too but get them with perforated leather and the midrange and timbre become stellar compared to the stock hybrid pads. None of the cavernous sound of the stock leather pads either.

Epro EP01 and Spinfit CP500 work well for me when it comes to taming treble.

You could also try aftermarket pads. I like the Dekoni perforated leather pads on the HD600, they keep a great balance with deeper bass (however I think that perforations generally also alter the soundstage and presence of a headphone in a bad way).
