Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R
just wanted to come back to this and say i actually enjoy the CKS99's now. not sure if it's because it needed more burn in, or my ears are now used to their sound. bass is pretty creamy with a good amount of sub-bass, while everything else is pretty crisp and clear. happy with the...- fansc

Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R
Ended up getting the CKS99 earphones as the substitute. They're not bad by any means, but just not the same as the MDR-1A. I wasn't expecting them to be identical, but hoping they'd be able to produce a similar sound with EQ. Generally speaking, I'd say the MDR-1A does everything better. The...- fansc

Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R
Will be using mostly at home, and sometimes bring it with me in the car for trips. Doesn't matter to me, as long as they sound similar to the MDR-1A and respond well to EQ.- fansc

Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R
Also looking at the ATH-WS99. I tried the momentum, but in-ear version. Hated them; extremely uncomfortable (feel like it had to do with air pressure), highs pierced and bass wasn't anywhere near the MDR-1A. Not sure if it matters, but I've been using an equalizer since I got the Sonys...- fansc

Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R
Anyone have recommendations on a replacement for my late MDR-1A? Currently looking at the CKS99 (for $100cdn brand new), CKS1100 and xba-z5 if I can still get it for $450. Anything else you guys can recommend with similar sound/quality in the $200-$400 range?- fansc

Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R
I called warranty earlier today. If I still had the receipt and I purchased it within a year, they would give me a brand new unit for free. I no longer have the receipt, and I think it's been about a year and half anyway. Just figured out how to detach the ear cup so I'll play around with it...- fansc

Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R
Yes, it did come with an extra cable but I have no idea where I lost it... just tried using a regular 3.5mm cable and had to push in real hard to get sound coming out the left ear. right still didn't work :( does that mean it's dead?! IM SO SAD- fansc

If you had to, which of the two (Z7/Z5) would you keep for both portable and home usage based purely off sound?- fansc

Sony's New 2014 flagship IEM - XBA Z5
Yea you can propose something like that (I used to work there). Say... 6 units @ $480 each or something you can give it a shot. Cost for the XBA-Z5 is around $390 (generally speaking, they shouldn't be going below 8.5%). Pretty sure they'd do it. edit: or let me know how many units you...- fansc

At NCIX (canada) technically they can discount it down to near cost, but they have 0 obligation to.- fansc
