    Recessed highs... Please

Quote: I heard about this (equal-loudness contour curves), but I thought the graphs (from Headroom) already took those things in consideration. Maybe not enough.

    Recessed highs... Please

Sorry, when I said "over ear" I meant "on ear". In fact I'm looking for "around ear" (circumaural/full size) headphones. Plus: less than 150$ and closed. If I don't find one, maybe I'll buy the px200II.

    Recessed highs... Please

I woudn't say that it physically hurts, but it's really unpleasant. The V6 dark? Are you sure you don't have hearing damage yourself? Seriously, the V6, k271, m50, srh840 all have an emphasis (a peak) around 10khz (according to some graphes). That's what I call highs (10khz). Maybe it's upper...

    Recessed highs... Please

I don't think I have hearing damages except, of course, that I can't hear above 14khz. I've done some tests on the Internet and the rest of the frequencies was very clearly heard. I think I have an issue with brightness in headphones indeed, especially with percussions in rock music and soul...

    Recessed highs... Please

About the in-ear monitors, while they're great for going outside (small + good isolation), I tend not to use them at home because of the slight discomfort issue I have with them. About the Senn HD2X8 series, they seem to have the kind of sound I'm looking for ("expect smooth sound and...

    Recessed highs... Please

Sennheiser could be a good idea, but it will have to be closed (and circumaural if possible; HD438 maybe). I already have a HD600 which I like, although sibilant at times (maybe it's the burnin' time; around 10h for the while). And one day, I'll upgrade to the HD650 which is supposed to be...

    Recessed highs... Please

Thanks for your replies. About EQing: I already EQ the phones I have (even if the results are not always satisfaying), but the problem is that I don't always use an EQable source; I would prefer to have this EQ build in the phones directly. About AIAIAI's tma-1: I didn't know this...

    Recessed highs... Please

Hi everyone, I'm finding the highs very harsh on all of my headphones and I'm looking for some closed cans with recessed upper mids and highs (from 6/7khz to 14khz; I can't hear above it). Some kind of non-audiophile cans maybe. Budjet: 150$ max. Something relaxing and forgiving on...

The BEST full sized headphones for $30 USD or less (updated Nov. 27 2013)?

I think that's a very useful thread. 90% of the people I know don't want to spend more than 40$ on a first buy of headphones. That doesn't mean they want to listen to crappy sound only for the sake of it. They just have other priorities in their life. But they're not dumb (most of them) and...

Audio Technica ATH-M50 vs Sony 7506?

IMHO, the ATH-M50 is a clear upgrade, especially in the mids (fuller) and the low highs or maybe the upper mids (not harsh). The bass quantity may be the same, but it sounds more natural on the M50 (maybe because it's less disjointed from the mids). Overall the ATH-M50 sounds much more balanced...

Sony MDR-V6 too bright & fatiguing - how does JVC HA-RX700 compare?

The ATH-M50 does eveything that the MRD-V6 can do, but with more balance and less harshness.

Sony MDR-V6 too bright & fatiguing - how does JVC HA-RX700 compare?

So not more details about the recording session and not more details about the audio source.

Sony MDR-V6 too bright & fatiguing - how does JVC HA-RX700 compare?

With the V6, you don't hear every bit of detail, you just hear more bass and more highs (the harsh ones) than on the record. But less of the rest. Fot me, that's not detail, that's focusing your attention on some specific frequency, and changing the balance, which could result in a perception...

These HD600's are terrible, and so are ALL headphones! I give up!!

I'm with you BHTX, for the while. I'm frustrated to find weird sounds in headphones. Once I asked a question to find a "honest" one (after some failures: Koss UR40, Sony Mdr-v6, Beyer Dt-150) and the answer was hd600. Instead of buying this, I bought the k271 because it was closed (I...
