So I like the Edition XS more than the HE1000 Stealth edition. Am I crazy?

As you didn't mention what you are driving them with. Edition XS is easier to drive. The HE1K Stealth which is essentially HE1K V2 (in terms of amp req), not to be confused with HE1K Special Edition, is harder to drive. And when not driven well, it usually results in shouty/brightness tonality.

HiFiMan Shangri-La Jr (New $8000 Electrostat)

My 2 cent is that Susvara is jack of all trades, master of none. It's well rounded when powered. Sounds anemic when it isn't, and you would be better off with their newer various stealth+nano easier to drive cans. The Jr lacks the bass and depth of soundstage to me, but the layering and detail...

iFi Audio Pro iESL - The Official Thread

At one point i ran it off a NAD M22 V2 Class D 450w @8ohm and it added the needed oompft and made HE6, Susvara sing with authority without the noise vs. connecting straight to the amp. But depending on the cans you are running, 100w isn't really enough imo.

    TAOBAO GOLDPLANAR GL850 + GL1000 + GL1200

I think John and I agree on the signatures of the two ribbon types. My biggest complaint with the silver is the bass distortion in complex passages and bleeds into the mids.

    TAOBAO GOLDPLANAR GL850 + GL1000 + GL1200

to be clear the adapter itself needs to be female on both end if going into Jot R when using gl1200 cable. Ribbon swap is easy, but don't force anything if u have to force then you are doing it wrong.

Just a female <> male adapter. Or buy raal sr1a cables.

Comment by 'bluesaint' in item 'Gold Planar GL1200'

I'd say a lot depends on your signal source. if you have a dark/warm system, the gold ribbons probably better. If you have a brighter leaning system, then silver "may" be better for you. It isn't a hard and fast rule as I have a neutral system and prefer gold.

    TAOBAO GOLDPLANAR GL850 + GL1000 + GL1200

yeah, they are flimsy plastic, and easy to mess up, also whatever you do, don't subject them to dust either. I wore gloves, hair cover, and mask when handling them :)

    TAOBAO GOLDPLANAR GL850 + GL1000 + GL1200

yes, stax amp and energizers are quite terrible. iESL is a totally different league. It has no coloring, so if you have a good speaker amp that you enjoy, that's the sound signature you will hear out of the iESL. I have the Hive and when properly driven it is ToTL sounding. Hive is harder to...
