Have you considered the Norne coaxial/minixlr adapters? No need to mess with drilling. Mods: grill and blutack if you plan to do the hard wiring and taking the drivers out.

There's a big price gap between the 6 and 1000! I think the 6 is one of the best sounding HPs I've heard, regardless of price. With the usual caveats (eg amping, mods) of course.
