I just tried them for a few weeks and I prefer the ELROGS. Pristine. Less than 50-100 hour of use. Brand new. Handled with white gloves. Utmost care.

Sent in the extended warranty card. Will help any heafiers redeem warranty if needed.

Received package, 11/14/22. Decided to go with MOs instead.

Hi — I’m in the process of finding the right 300B’s for my tastes to use in a dac. I’m curious, what is it you prefer about the Elrogs over the WE’s? I recently dealt with someone that had tried a pair of Taks, before going for the Elrogs.

Hhhmm. Well it seems I may not have given the WE300B enough time to break in but initial impressions I like the Elrog300B better. More extended on both ends. More grunty bass.

WE300B have great midrange and more airy.

Yes, your reply saves me a critical comment. Instant gratification definitely doesn’t work with audio gear. There’s a reason why pro reviewers don’t start critical listening until after 200, if not 300 hours. Like other gear, tubes need at least 200-250 hours to achieve their long-term sound. I just had a pair of older Philips Holland E88CC’s that didn’t blossom into another tube, so to speak, until around 280 (I keep track of burn in). I just started burning in a new pair of WE 300B’s in a Lampi dac Wednesday night. I can tell they have enormous promise along the lines you mention (and more), but right now most everything is muddy and the pitch is a bit off, which really shows with solo piano and acoustic bass. Those are the kinds of qualities that I expect — and hope! — extended burn in will take care of. Btw, that midrange is why I turned over the Taks, because as clear and dynamic as they are, their midrange lacked life, soul. Good luck.

Hmmm, might keep them and burn them in properly before making a rash decision.

In case you are not aware of it, just leaving tube gear on serves the tube burn in process. No need to play anything continuously. That applies to tubes, and also cables/fuses if feeding a piece from an outlet or conditioner. Afaik, other parts need play.

It’d be nice to hear about similarities and differences between fully burned in WE’s and Elrog’s, but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards here.
