How to describe this tuning and headphone? What I asked for was some crazy combination of a Denon D9200, ZMF Eikon, Meze 109 Pro, and EMu-Teak. My intent was to convey a musical neutral but bass elevated sound signature that can take further EQ to increase bass as needed. Take those headphones and the tunings with intent to EQ and then enhance it into something with more soundstage, better details, and better imaging. John Massaria delivered. Mids and highs have details in spades, the soundstage I would describe as more of a cathedral it doesn't extend infinitely but it does go out and around, and then there's the bass. The BASS! The way these headphones work is if it's too much for you there are bass ports that can be covered. They can take it and much more. The best textural presentation of bass quality and quantity I have ever heard. The best headphone I have ever heard. If these aren't the best closed back in the world they are top 3, just sit back and enjoy the music and let it surround you.

So why am I selling? If you look at my post history comfort is a dealbreaker for me and I am ungodly picky about comfort with no compromises. I also wear glasses full-time and work at a desk so I intend to wear my headphones 6+ hours a day. For me, these can't support that goal - I have a slight hot-spot on the top of the headband and there is too much pressure on my glasses. I did follow JM's instructions to bend the headband slightly to reduce clamp. Understand that JM Audio was 100% willing to work with me and change headbands, try adding padding, etc - I personally took this as a time to try something new since it's been a few years now of finding over-ear headphones I love the sound of but experience comfort issues with, so I'm throwing in the towel.

Notes about condition: You can see there is some stuff on the headband, it looks like they're chipped but it's actually some glue or something I think - I tried scraping that off with a fingernail but it wouldn't come off, not sure if goo gone would be required to remove it. It doesn't bother me and I didn't mention it to JM, I received these on April 24, 2024 and they have been well taken care of, what you see should be how I received them.

500+ Head-Fier
I have a pair of these in African Blackwood Burl and I concur that in many ways they are the best closed-back headphones I have heard, particularly bass, dynamics, and midrange body. You can send them back to John Massaria to have them retuned to practically any sound you like for only shipping costs. Who else does this?
