Every once in a while a manufacturer creates something that transcends their intentions..These products compete shoulder to shoulder with similar products costing many, many times the asking price..
Such are the Dynaudio Excite X14..I have demo'd these side by side & level matched with Harbeth P3ESR,Reference 3A Dulcet i & Audience Clairaudiant 1+1V5...
They bettered the Harbeth in the Bass & EQUALED it in the MidRange & Treble!
Not as extended in the treble as the Ref.3A BUT much sweeter, not rolled off sweeter, naturally sweeter, more organic..
And the HIGHLY regarded Audience? At $3500.00 the pair they were COMPLETELY slain by the X14,from the deeper, much better textured bass,up through the lucid, dreamy midrange right on up through the airier, more natural treble!!!
Don't take my word for it,quotes from Stereophile review:
"The Excite X14s' dead-neutral, detailed, and holographic midrange made them a perfect showcase for well-recorded voices."
"voice was silky, every sibilant reproduced with crystal clarity and no trace of spittiness or harshness as it floated on a bed of air"
"The X14's reproduction of high frequencies was extended, pristine, uncolored, and delicate with all recordings I listened to"
"The acid test of a speaker's high-frequency capabilities is its reproduction of the strings in a good recording of a baroque chamber ensemble. The massed violins in Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets in C, RV 537, from the Academy of Ancient Music led by Christopher Hogwood (LP, L'Oiseau Lyre DSL 0544), sounded extended and airy, and revealed an ideal and delicate balance of bowed string bite and silky seductiveness"
"Very impressed with the Excite X14's bass performance throughout a wide range of recordings,my listening notes read:clean, clear, warm, and resonant, quite capable of handling dramatic passages in the lower bass, blooming, airy, and powerful, with no overhang or loss of definition in the lower notes."
SUPER EASY to drive.Give them 10wpc.of Class A Tube or SS in a nearfield system & prepare to be absolutely enchanted..If you can't afford an expensive system now, these speakers will take you from a small integrated amplifier like an Audiolab M-One/Quad Vena 2 or similar, to a $7500.00 amplifier/cable combination before EVER reaching their maximum performance...
Walnut finish is PERFECT,not a single blemish anywhere, you can't tell them from a new pair..
