It does look like the 3.5mm dust cover is triggering port detection by mistake, but since the plug does not make contact with any of the signal pins, much less short them out, no damage shall result.

Thanks .. I kind of expected that, but with pricy musical equipment like the R8 ii one can never be cautious enough
