    Earbuds Round-Up

Currently listening to this through the Dunu Alpha 3s and they continue to astound me. I feel immersed, tonally all seems right, and pretty good technicalities to boot. I can’t thank everyone enough for the recommendations, I had been neglecting buds for wayyy too long. What is everyone else...

Spent this evening listening to the B70 with donuts and they sound much better to me with these foams. Sounds less boxy listening to Joni Mitchell’s Hejira and some Kate Bush. Still don’t like them much with classical but they are quickly becoming my go-to for other stuff. Very nice and super...

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.

I’m certainly like you in that respect. I think as a young teenager I had something similar with Schoenberg Peripetie, sat in class not quite grasping what was happening but really intrigued by why. Our time is precious, but so is our time with music, sound, and our own thoughts. A tough call...

Yeah that makes sense. I too would be interested to hear about those who think similarly to him, certainly a strong chance they know something I don’t and can learn to see music in a different light. I think when I say “moves me emotionally” I mean that it brings about some kind of emotion...

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.

For me, I think saying music is “bad” implies you have to already have in mind what “good” is. I’d argue that we don’t have some universal truth of “good” with regards to music and so it must be subjective. Therefore I prefer to say music I like or dislike to keep away from implying that I know...

Finally all my bits and pieces have arrived so I’m in a b c mode, comparing the alpha 3, b70 and aeolian bells. Initial impressions tell me that the alpha 3 and AB are probably better for my listening to classical music. Years of playing in orchestras and watching them mean that I’m quite...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Still waiting on the B70 and cable for the aeolian bells to rock up, but I have managed about 4 or 5 hours of proper sit down listening time with the Alpha 3. I have to say that coming from headphones, iems, and 2 channel I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to get with flatheads. I kind of...

Still waiting on the straight cable for the aeolian bells, but got a different distraction from the nice postman man… Build feels great and after trying them in the ear the fit is spot on. I’ll spend a few hours with them and report back. Hope everyone is having a great day!

    Earbuds Round-Up

Ok so down the rabbit hole we go. Lun Sheng Aeolian Bells have arrived, but still waiting for the straight cable I ordered to go with it. I tried them with an earhook mmcx cable but it just wasn’t sitting right so I’ll hold my tongue regarding any sound impressions until tomorrow when the...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Ok so I’ve jumped in and ordered 3 sets to give a go: Dunu Alpha 3, NiceHCK B70, and Lun Sheng Aeolian Bells. Thanks for everyone that’s given their 2 cents and helped, I’ll be dropping impressions and thoughts as and when I receive stuff.

I see yeah looks to be coming out to a nice price tomorrow, I’ll certainly bear that in mind since the shell is tad different to the others. Great call!

    Earbuds Round-Up

I did a mini test and it seems I’ll be good for most anything, though I guess we’ll see once I get some in my ears! Thanks again. Yeah I’ve been aware of them for a while but never managed to get there, I’m in Daegu. Hopefully soon I can go and have a solid afternoons peruse! In other exciting...

Thank you so much for the detailed help. Once I’m home from work I’ll see if I can find a coin or three to determine size compatibility. Interesting, I’ll have a little search of these to see what’s up.

Wow thanks so much for the welcome!! Very much appreciate it. Haha I’m as much Korean as if David Beckham decided to move to Seoul, that is, I am but a Brit abroad. Nevertheless thank you for the fabulous welcome! Yes, from what you and others have said I think getting and trying a variety of...

    Earbuds Round-Up

A good question. For me I mean fatiguing not in the sense that I get actual discomfort so much as I get worn down mentally by something like sibilance distracting from my listening. Like a persistent mosquito at night leading to a poor nights sleep. I’m not sure if that makes sense aha, it does...

    Earbuds Round-Up

By fatiguing, for me it’s the bite or sibilance in the mid to upper treble that gets to me. Actually, it’s not that I can’t listen to it so much as it draws me out of the music as i usually find it distracting more than uncomfortable. Yeah i can use Aliexpress, I live in South Korea...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Ok I see so I need to get down the ear shape first probably, that makes sense. Thanks for those extra recommendations, it might make sense for me to grab a couple slightly less expensive models and listen/feel them for a while to see what’s up. Many thanks for your insight. Thanks for another...

    Earbuds Round-Up

I’ll quote myself for budget and sources and stuff: Sound signature wise I tend to appreciate clarity without fatigue. That is I’m not after big bass or hyper warmth, but prefer anything from warm-neutral to neutral-bright, so long as it’s not raking my eardrums out. In terms of shells I have...

Budget to begin with is probably up to about 400 dollars, but cheaper is fine also. Sources are Astell and Kern SR25 and Shanling H7, the latter being the one I use most nowadays.

    Earbuds Round-Up

Hello there! I’m new to the thread as to be honest I've been iem, headphone, and 2 channel centric and have not considered earbuds since the early 2000s, when I was wearing pink jelly JVCs with my iPod, drying off after surfing…good times, good times. Anyway, I recently remember seeing...

    Shanling H7 - High-End Portable DAC/AMP/Player, Featuring new AKM AK4499EX Flagship DAC

That’s exactly it. Feels like the H7 gives everything I throw at it the gravitas of a distinguished professor. No sudden outbursts during lectures or spiky mood swings, but all the information, wisdom, and inspiration you could ever need.

    Shanling H7 - High-End Portable DAC/AMP/Player, Featuring new AKM AK4499EX Flagship DAC

Just got my H7 today! Listening to it through FD5s and I don’t know who mentioned it before but it’s a really good pairing. Feels like it just gently rounds off the sometimes problematic treble area and gives enough oomph to get the driver really speaking. I’ve never heard them sound as good.

Cheers guys much appreciated. Went for the H7 in the end, got it arriving tomorrow I believe. Very exciting times!
