THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.
There is a big difference between two versions in terms of air movement (besides tuning difference which is also huge, keep this in mind). Neutral version has a silicon tube inside which bass version doesn’t have at all - hope you’ll be able to audition it somewhere. While I know guys who liked...- Alexzander

Did you have a bass version or neutral version? Cause, you know, bass version with ECL-03 MF one of the most dynamic headphones with strong elevated bass that I heard in the market. Though you need to put smth like 1+ Watts into it to sound good, so in my case DX320 and DX320 MAX TI worked well...- Alexzander

It for sure does while it’s not essentially needed in my opinion - you would get a more effortless, full and at the same time more controlled presentation.- Alexzander

I personally wouldn’t go with the Expanse as they actually have a semi-open back design resulting in stage being more on a bit smaller side, and it’s tuning also doesn’t help with this. As for being overly dampened - they all are, which result in absence of air movement, like the sound is...- Alexzander

May I ask you to provide some comparisons to any well-known IEM like Traillii, Jewel, Raven, you name it? You have piqued my interest but I just want to keep my expectations real.- Alexzander

So we are able now to bully each due to wrongful numeric preferences, right! Great news! It also seems that the number of real (non-mp3) tracks are around x5 times less than initially declared number - are you into corporate reporting stuff or something like this by any chance?- Alexzander

Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000T
It’s very funny and resembles some meme but I specifically wait for your wait to be over 😂 As I’d need to go into a big hustle to acquire SP3KT if I decide to for the same reasons that you mentioned. I had a Woo Audio Tube Mini with the same tubes I believe and that ringing was killing me. The...- Alexzander

The thing with a stepped attenuator is not the sensitivity of an IEM used but sound dropping out while changing steps (there is nothing you can do with this) and not that big steps amount to match exactly your desired volume (24, but it also have +/- controls, so was not an issue for me).- Alexzander

Yep, tried with Traillii, what aspects are you interested about? When driven through a good Android phone, Mac or PC it sounded almost like DX320 MAX on Gain 2. The background is black, sound is quite technical with noticeable sub bass boost and a bit of highs highlighting, the scene is very...- Alexzander

Well, regularly winters are much more mild there than what you described, a -20 C degree is considered to be cold, and I’ve remember having -30 C only few times in my whole life here, so not sure that I would go along with regular -40 C if it was like this too often 😂- Alexzander

@Kunal1991 a lot of guys would probably disagree including infamous @drftr , but I would say that Aroma Jewel has the best quality of the bass in the game right now (quantity wise bassheads could desire more of course). And I would not pick up Z1R as a total package for its price due to recessed...- Alexzander

Please do make a comparison between 74E and Traillii if you review this new Canpur model! I had a feeling that 54E didn’t fall short compared to the Bird in terms of technicalities but maybe lacked some magic in its presentation.- Alexzander

Ok as Oriolus seem to raise their price for Traillii in Japan to 7.2k USD$ I’m ready to sell mine used just for the old price of 6.5k USD$. Cash only via courier pigeon.- Alexzander
