Very true. I had pairs of 1954, 1957 and 1958. All were different sounding to a degree. However I don't recall any of them sounding grainy to my ears. I think I liked the 57s the best, actually. Not as lush as the 54 elliptical getter.

They're hit or miss IME. In my previous house I used them. I never compared them to wifi since they seemed to work well enough. But in current situation they were noisy. Might be dependent on the condition of the house wiring or if you're going through the main breaker between in/out.
