Topping and SMSL have very good offerings with SOTA specs, second hand ADI-2 DAC is also a possibility. JDS Labs Atom+ is also superb for the price!- NickedWicked

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
I can imagine especially with a unit from 2018, there's been tons of firmware updates in the meantime. Especially with the big update from last year, RME completely rewrote the code to be as efficient as possible in order to be able to house all these features on it's limited storage and utilize...- NickedWicked

Hey, I just tried that track, no issues whether it’s on phone output or line output. I do have Digital DC protection on On for both outputs. Not the filter option or Off, this option should mute the sound in case DC content is detected but it did not in this case. Downloaded and installed the...- NickedWicked

Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread
Listened to my speakers almost exclusively the last 2 months and decided to put on the 660S2 once again with Yosi Horikawa as the preferred artist for tonight's listen. I instantly realized I missed these quite a bit, the way the music simply envelops around you like soft waves on the shore. No...- NickedWicked

Probably, I don’t think they have replacement glasses for it but you can always ask. A new screen is about 60 bucks + maybe half an hour of labour at a certified RME service point.- NickedWicked

You’ll need to contact RME to replace the screen, ADI units had a few different IPS screens due to shortages and such. So you can’t just randomly buy one and hope it will fit and have the right connections for the PCB.- NickedWicked

Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread
Smooth, plenty of speed and detail as well. Could use a bit more bite for the guitars on occasion but that’s just nitpicking and probably not preferred for a relaxed listen. To be honest I still need to hear a genre where the 660S2 doesn’t sound great. :)- NickedWicked

After a few weeks spend with the HD660S2 and the NDH 30, I might sell the HD660S2 as well. It's a pretty tough choice and depending on your preferences you might prefer one over the other. To me the 660S2 has that nice warm, fuzzy mid-range with a little edge to sharpen things up for the higher...- NickedWicked

RME ADI-2 Pro - DAC, Headamp, an a lot of more stunning features
Auto mode is a bit finnicky for me as well, I usually just change to DAC mode instead of Auto so I can select the source manually. That way the audio always works, I'm not quite sure how the ADI processes signals from different sources and what receives input priority or not. Might be worth...- NickedWicked

RME ADI-2 Pro - DAC, Headamp, an a lot of more stunning features
Very nice Nomax, I was tempted by it a few months ago. But I don't think it's worth the 1k step-up in money compared to the ADI-2 Pro FS R I have now; I'll have to wait for the ADI-2 Pro 2 or whatever they are gonna call it lol. Unless I see a great deal on a Pro 2/4, then I might get an itchy...- NickedWicked

Neumann NDH 30
I had it, it sounded very nice. Ribbon headphones or speakers for that matter, have a pretty unique sound signature. It had very tight and low reaching bass, never really bloomed and bled into the midrange, the mid-range is where it sounded a bit odd and scooped at certain frequencies but...- NickedWicked

I agree, it’s a chameleon. Just like their speaker equivalent (KH 310), bad recordings sound awful and good recordings sound amazing. It’s one of the reasons I keep the 660S2 purely because it handles shoddy recordings a lot better. BTW I highly recommended playing a few intense FPS games...- NickedWicked

The build design around the driver kinda reminds me of the HD 800, very interesting. Might have to try one, the “mid-range” priced headphone section is on fire lately!- NickedWicked

I hate this lockable plug with a passion, I still don’t know how I got it locked in when I got the box but hey, if it works, it works… :) I think a regular 3.5mm plug a la Focal Clear would’ve been nicer, I never had an issue with those. Might be a good suggestion for the black edition if it...- NickedWicked

To answer your question, the NDH 30 has more resolution and clarity, a bigger soundstage with more depth width and height and more precise imaging. Technically it is at least a class above the 660S2. However that does not necessarily make the 660S2 the inferior headphone, just a different sound...- NickedWicked

I also sold my Auteur and OG Clear quite a while ago, got my hands on the new LCD-X, Hifiman Arya and Heddphone in that time as well that were also sold lol. I remember the Focal being really nice, it was comfy, a tad heavy, very premium feeling, and had a very agile sound. It had a pretty...- NickedWicked

Buddy, you listen to your headphones through mixers and recording hardware which are generally not all that great for headphones, spec and noise wise. It’s getting pretty hard to take you serious…- NickedWicked

It is a bit difficult to explain, you can hear the drivers are rather similar yet they completely tightened up the bass, somehow gave the diaphragm a lot more stiffness and/or altered the damping causing it to sound a lot more faster and tamed the high-end with a certain material. I'm sure there...- NickedWicked

I thought they sounded very similar as well, I gave my 560S away to family. But while I had it it was a fantastic headphone for 150 or less on sale. It's like a mini HD 800S, the soundstage is not as wide, the imagining not as precise, treble not as refined and missed a bit of warmth and...- NickedWicked

That’s because it fills both roles really well, it is hands down the most accurate headphone I heard today for in the studio. While at the same time it is a really dynamic sounding headphone. A bit dry and no standout frequencies perhaps, has the soundstage of an Arya, the natural sound of an...- NickedWicked

I wouldn't say the HD800S is worth double, but it is still a special headphone after all these years. I posted here like 2 months ago since I was jokingly questioning whether the NDH 30 would be a good competitor/replacement to the HD800S and surprisingly it is. The NDH 30 isn't as extremely...- NickedWicked

Still having trouble selling the HD800S in favor of the NDH 30 and 660S2, while the former perform a lot more natural there's just something about the ethereal nature of the HD800S, the way it presents instruments, vocals, resolve, details and the soundscape itself. It may at times sound...- NickedWicked

I sometimes forget that I enabled loudness compensation and a bit of bass boost for late night listening and I end up listening to my gear for a week or more wondering why it sounds a bit shouty and bassy with normal listening and then it's like ah yes, I enabled this during the weekend lol.- NickedWicked

I’ve yet to hear a difference with well designed SS amps, the best of the best (Topping, Violectric, Niimbus) sounded pretty much identical to me on several headphones compared to the ADI-2 amp. I recently listened to my laptop that has a pretty decent build in audio solution with a 3.5mm plug...- NickedWicked
