If you have foobar and iTunes (v10.5 or newer) still installed you could just rip with foobar straight to TVBR m4a/aac.  When you installed foobar, did you install the 'Optional' components?  If not, re-install, choose Custom install, look in the Optional features and choose Convertor, etc...I...

Another nice thing about flac or other lossless types is that you won't get any additional quality loss (whether audible or not) if you decide to transcode to a lossy format.  I mean vs transcoding from one lossy to another lossy format, of course.

Do you have the latest version of foobar?  You should be able to select all the files, right-click them-->ReplayGain-->Remove ReplayGain information from files.  Mp3tag or another tag editor can also remove replaygain tags.   Or do you mean the MP3Gain information?  If MP3Gain was set to write...

Yup, I'm familiar with how replaygain works.  What I should have said was that since they're just tags they don't actually do anything to the audio itself, and if the iPod is set to ignore the replaygain tags the audio would not be affected...so same effect as removing them.

    You shouldn't have to actually remove replaygain tags, should you?  They're just metadata, like Artist, etc...shouldn't actually affect audio quality I don't think.  I don't know how iPods work, but turning off the volume check/option to use replaygain tags sounds like it'll work.  Or...
