Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
I heard some pretty bad harshness in my HD650's once. Realized I was listening to a 2khz test tone.- thejsm

Ok, I got you man, that makes sense. So something like this? No, but seriously. That's good your doing well in school. Credentials make life much easier later on, not that I'm old and wise at 30 but I've been working long enough to appreciate it. I can also empathize with the...- thejsm

I would say for the price the X-Fi HD USB is leagues above the magni/modi stack. It uses the same chip for the DAC and the X-Fi drives my HD650's to ear blistering levels, all for the price of 59.99 refurbished. I even put an Asgard 2 after and just used the X-Fi as a DAC and saw basically no...- thejsm

I've been pretty happy with my ATH-M50x's with a little comfort MOD I posted about here. Greatly improves the comfort, sound is mostly unchanged as well. http://www.head-fi.org/t/744901/foam-ath-m50x-comfort-mod- thejsm

I agree, I would consider myself a basshead at times and I flat out hate the m-100. Talk about a veiled sound, bass is bloated as well. The only way to make them pleasureable at all is to pump the volume to a certain level.- thejsm

How so? The ODAC has a completely different DAC (ESS Sabre ES9023) versus the X-Fi HD USB that uses the exact same chip as the Modi (AKM4396VF). Even if I had gone with the Schiit stack, I probably would hear minute differences. With an entirely different DAC I'm not sure how you came to this...- thejsm

So guys, I need help I'm not sure what to do at this point. I honestly feel like an idiot, I purchased a Schiit Asgard 2. What a beautiful piece of machinery. For the $250 I feel satisfied with the money spent, it's elegant, straightforward and does exactly what I expected it too, drive my...- thejsm

I was looking at those, but then I found the Maverick TubeMagic D1 Plus. Going to order one with the OPAMP upgrade/Tube upgrade. Looks like a lot more for the money @ 259 +25 for a DAC/AMP combo, it can push 300mw @ 600ohms cwhich compared to magnis 130 @ 600ohms. if you look at the impedance...- thejsm

I know this is an old thread but I'm currently driving my HD650's with no problems, volume level at 40 is almost too loud. I also have the ATH-M50x's and they sing easily.- thejsm

Foam ATH-M50x Comfort Mod
Hey Guys, This is probably my first real post here so be gentle. I first of all love my ATH-M50x's (and my HD650's) but the ATH-M50x's are no where near the same comfort level as the HD650's naturally because of the cup size, depth and same with the pads. I banged my head in the wall for a...- thejsm

Had the HD650's for about 5 days now, I've literally been re-listening to all of my music collection because I notice things I've heard before with my previous headphones. The ability to critically listen with these is flat out amazing, they are perfectly balanced for my tastes. If I really...- thejsm

Just got my HD650's in from Amazon, These things aren't even broken in yet and I already feel like they are sexually assaulting my ears. I've got ATH-M50x's for my closed cans and now these for my open, both amazing headphones. This is turning into a bad obsession.- thejsm
