Buying my first Mid-Fi/Hi-Fi set of cans; care to help me spend too much money? Picking based off sound signature.
Alright so the HD700s are definitely out. Right now I think the DT880s are my best bet. Thanks so much for the help! Oooh you know I never thought to check the for sale forum... I'll keep an eye out. I think that I'll be going with the DT880 Premium 600ohm, but I'll be waiting awhile before...- Jmurphly

Perfect! The DT880 600-ohm and k712s (just wish they weren't orange ) are raising my eyebrows particularly high. Yeah probably should have included musical taste in my drawn out post, huh? Anyways; here's a few of my favorite tracks: ...- Jmurphly

Hmm those Beyers look nice but they are a bit out of my price range. Speaking of Beyerdynamic, though; after looking around at some freq response graphs it seems like the dt880 premiums have a nearly perfect signature for me. They are quite a bit cheaper than anything else I've looked at...- Jmurphly

Thanks for the suggestions! There is a small audio shop near me but I think they're mainly a Grado dealer... I'll give 'em a call and check. Those Hifimans look pretty nice... I've heard that the HE500 is very similar to the new and widely available HE400i. Any truth to that? Also dear...- Jmurphly

Hello there Head-fi! So as the title states; I'm looking to buy my first set of "serious" headphones. So instead of doing the whole song and dance of "This headphones vs this headphone vs...." I'm going to instead describe the sound signature I want, and let you guys recommend me...- Jmurphly

Reply to review by 'jmurphly' on item 'Philips SHP9500'
I bought my SHP9500s about 6 months ago and I have to agree; they are incredibly good for the price. Excellent sound quality, good build (For the money) and I don't really know how a headphone COULD be more comfortable... Maybe if the cups were slightly deeper? That's the only thing I can think...- Jmurphly

WOW! Those are some handsome headphones... I have a concern, though. Many reviews say that they are incredibily fragile. How long have you had your headphones, and how would you rate their durability?- Jmurphly

Thank you! And yes, I did read the whole post. ;P Anyway, do you have an experience with the HD518s from Senn? I've heard many people say they sound almost identical to the HD 558s just with a touch more bass. I can currently get the HD 518s for $50 on Amazon, so if what they say is true, I'd...- Jmurphly

Well I will be driving them through a Schiit Vali tube amp, so I don't think power should be a problem. I don't plan on using them with my phone or anything either.- Jmurphly

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately it looks like it would take 2 1/2 - 3 weeks for them to get to me... I was hoping I could get something sooner than that. I found these on amazon...- Jmurphly

Looking for a cheap and comfortable headphone to pair with Schiit Vali/Modi
Hey there Head-Fi! So I'm in the market for a new set of cheaper headphones. I currently use a pair of Shure SE215 IEMs, which while wonderful, don't exactly work for long listening sessions. So for that reason, I'd like a pair of comfy over ear phones. I listen to a lot of Blues/Rock...- Jmurphly
