First off sorry if this is in the wrong place but it was the best I could find for my question.

I'm wondering why the classifieds section doesn't require any images and more specifically why it isn't a requirement to post an image of the item with the sellers username and the current listing date visible. Other classified sites require that and it's a good first step in preventing scams and fraudulent listings. I was prompted to ask because I've seen two fraudulent listings in the last two days that have wholesale copied the images from a listing elsewhere on the web into a one here. One listing was from a new user with zero feedback and one was from an existing user that is suspected to have had their account hacked. I'm not linking to those listings because I don't know for a fact that either is fraudulent but each one pointed out as being a scam but another user in the comments and I confirmed that the photos in both were indeed borrowed from a listing on another site.

I would like to suggest that the rules be changed to require a proof of possession photo. Does anyone else think that is a good idea and know the best way to make that suggestion to the site owners/ moderators? Thanks.

Haha.. just one of those things on Head-Fi. I think the Advanced search works a little better.
Advanced search is a bit better in it's default state but not much. Sorry if this is well known already but I just discovered that when I check the "Search titles only" box on the advanced search I get much, much better results.

Seems a bit pointless, IMHO. Any intelligent consumer is going to ask for photos of the item, if they're not already there. Similarly, manufacturer photos of the item are obvious. Again, if there's any doubt, the intelligent consumer is going to ask for more detailed photos. The response from the seller is the telltale.

It's not Head-Fi's responsibility to educate consumers on "buyer-beware," only to prevent outright fraud and theft through use of their platform.

Some people try to sell on Head-Fi, Reddit A/V, Ebay and other sites at the same time. With the same photo. That doesn't mean they are fraudulent.

When I see a dated photo I expect that it's also up on Reddit.

Low feedback numbers or newbie posters are a red flag, definitely. Ditto lack of a current photo of the item. But that's between seller and prospective buyer. We're all, presumably, grown-ups here.

Since Head-Fi takes no commission, it's reasonable not to expect Head-Fi to police all the listings, as if that were even possible. Scammers gonna scam, unfortunately. Caveat emptor is a safe attitude.
