I remember may years ago (I was 16 at the time) responding to a classified ad for a pair of Magnepan SMGa speakers that I wanted to buy with my yard mowing money. The seller realized I was a kid, asked if my parents were ok with me spending the money, and upon pickup cut the price in half ($200 total). Those speakers opened my mind to a deeper appreciation of music. I had the same think happen a few years later with my first turntable purchase. Older hobbyists helped me out in many ways over the years. Now I am older :)

I am sure I am not alone in having some equipment that is good, but not quite worth the hassle of selling. I would love to pass along these things to the younger generation so that they get what I got - a leg up and an appreciation for higher quality audio. Is there a way to help out our younger population with some great deals?

I would definitely like to pay it forward myself. Not long after joining this forum someone gave me a broken and worn pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80s that I refurbished, and ended up loving to death. I think I gave them away after my poor solder job on the jack failed, but it'd be nice to give a more usable headphone back to the community.

It's hard to find people on this board who might be looking for a nice gesture, because we don't get many beggars or sob stories like somewhere like Reddit does. But then I'd be leery of messages coming from someone with 0 posts and an account made like 2 days ago.

I have gifted quite a bit of gear…. Headphones, speakers, amps, turntables….honestly I dont care if they are young or not. They people I have gifted dont have the means to buy gear. They now have great pride in the setups I helped them start. Same thing happened for me….paying it forward is so rewarding in so many ways.

That first piece of gear that you get that changes everything about the way you listen to your music is priceless! I remember sitting in front of an Emerson ( I think) full stereo Turntable setup (All in One) and will never forget it.

Then years later I found an ad for a Technics Quad all-in-one receiver in local classifieds and much like you the seller saw I was an 18-year-old "kid" buying his first real gear and took pity! LOL

And the journey is still going!

Happy New Year!
