I would like to collect recommendations of
retailers with good prices and service.

It seems that some of the places with the lowest
prices tend to cause problems with delivery speed,
pre-opened packages, returns, warranties...

Headroom is one company I recommend. They ship very fast, and while their prices aren't always the lowest, their customer service is great and they will answer all your questions. They have a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on all their products, so you can send them back within 30 days for a full refund (which might take a while to come, however).

Meier Audio is another one. Jan Meier's prices are generally lower than Headroom's, although you have to wait longer to receive your products from Germany and paying is a little more complicated, although not overly so. His Corda HA-1 headphone amplifier is a great value and great product even not considering the low price.

But above all, I'd recommend your local audio dealer. Their prices might be higher than many online dealers', but they're local businesses which have open showrooms for you to use. While I have not yet bought from my local dealer (Goodwin's Audio in Boston), it is only because they either do not have the specific product I want or the price is far over what I would spend. I think you'll find that many items can be had for very reasonable prices with local dealers, though.

the Original thread

http://headphone2.superhost.com/foru...5&pagenumber=1

I bought my denon dcm370 there after 2 days of store researching.

This is the store I bought the player from

http://www.lgdsuperstore.com/

THE absolutely BEST price I found on the net on Dcm370. Excellent and prompt service ( shipped right away and packaged my dcm370 very good in double box with a ton of foam peanuts)

http://www.bizrate.com/ratings_guide...1140000&r=perf

is their bizrate rating. with 2500+ ratings, the grade is pretty good.

My experience with this store so far is A++ tens across each category !

Wont hesistate to order from them again.

Audio Advisor

Dealing with them for about 15 years
HIGHLY recommended

Have not dealt with Headroom yet (I will when I am ready for the RS-1s) but these guys are way cool

Other than Headroom and Chu at HeadWize we would ALL be listening to streetstyles

And not know any better

Portable music and headphones are kinda like the orphan stepchild of audio-at least to the general populace

Spend 10K on the home system then jog with ****

Quick story

Found www.enjoythemusic.com about one week after I got online,at my age computer were not something I grew up with

In fact , a good proportion of MY contemporaries are still not "hooked up" unless thier business operates on some level on the net

So back to enjoy the music

found the DIY **** page ,very cool

found the free **** page

two songs in something called MP3

What ?

So I download WinAmp ,like the second release

WOW ! This is Freakin cool !!!

The net rules !

Hit the links page-headroom is a link and I read EVERYTHING on the site

gettin' excited

link to HeadWize

DAMN !

DIY AUDIO TO GO !

*STEP BACK A COUPLE OF YEARS*

12 YEARS OLD ,Popular Electronics on the rack as mom shops

To this point had NO interest but baught it and read it and tried o build the ****

NO FRKN LUCK

Then the next months issue comes out with the "oops,we ****ed up,this is what we really meant" page

A MONTH ?!?!!!!

So I honed my skills over the years either building **** or blowing **** up

Eventually I could SEE the mistakes of the schematic ,come with doing instead of thinking about doing

Kinda like reading a book on marksmanship

You gotta shoot the gun ,no book can make you hit the target

So I spend a few years building/blowing up various projects

I even do the SWTPC "plastic Tiger" and A preamp kit with push button tone controls (still have the discrete op-amp plug in boards somewhere)

And lose interest out of frustration

FAST FORWARD

I am sitting in the NCO club about 1976 or so , half ****ed up and bored to ****

I see a mag called "Audio" and insiode are the blow by blow for the Leach Low TIM amp

I am interested but this bitch is COMLICATED

still though , the DIY spirit is scratching the short hairs at the back of my neck ( and being light infantry means there were not many short hairs to be found)

But no time for this **** ,gotta shoot/blow some **** up

But I take it and tuck it away

Get out in '76 and subscribe to Audio ,popular electronics had becom computer electronics and I had no use for either the Altair or the Sinclair or and of this too much work for so little return

Anyway

Great articles but still not building **** , parts were a bitch back in the day and if buying "one of " locally then , a single power transistor could set you back $10

So **** DIY , I will just do concerts and hit on the ladies and work till I drop

*fast forward*

First computer ,486-no clue but hell,I can figure this **** out

Go online

FRUSTRATION !

What's all this **** about the internet ?

SCREW THE INTERNET , buncha geeks and no lifes anyways

*fast forward*

Go for the IBM ,sets me back $2,200

Log in and DAMN !!!@!!!!!%%&

So this is what I was missing !

That was five years ago (the rickcr42 relates to my age when I finally broke through,42 then,47 now,-5,do the math)

So I have no idea, all over the net and pretty much lost

I do a search on "music" and after a ****load of no intersted find Enjoythemusic.com ,from there ,as stated earlier Headroom and then headwize

I remember how much I loved DIY audio and the intimate "one with me" of headphones

And STARTED BUILDING **** AGAIN

But big difference

INSANT FEEDBACK

INTERACTION

REAL PEOPLE

The rest is history

Did I say quick story ?

didja fall for it ?

love you guys

Eagle, I posted in portable because I was hoping
to find out where people ordered their _portable_
stuff. Like cdp's, phones(ex70's, 888's...)

Can this go back?

Thanks DanG. I bought HD580's and a TA a while
back. Recently I bought DT831's from Jan when he
had the headwize sale. The TA is convenient, but
I long for layout software so I don't have to wait
on others to do it...

The best "audio dealer" in Tucson is best buy!

Tides, thanks! I'll check out headphone2 and
lgdsuperstore.

planetminidisc, minidisco and electronicsemall
don't have enough selection.

I want to try out a panasonic ct570, ex70's and
sony 888's.

I know what it feels like rickcr42. I have been
started designing opamps in 84 when comlinear
didn't have anything fast enough... It hurts to
see what off the shelf stuff costs and does, and
then think about how much time it takes to
actually _finish_ something better...
