I did it. I frankensteined a Technics RP-FT30 and a Sennheiser HD497. I took the drivers and the detachable cable assembly off the HD497 and stuck them inside the FT30. First impressions before any tuning are surprisingly good. There's boxiness and some harshness to be cured, but it's doable...
