I think it's time we had another Bay Area get together. We all had a nice time at the last couple of meetings, trying out different amps, headphones, CD players, DACs, cables and tweeks. I'm sure there will be some new things to try, and hopefully some of those who couldn't make it before can join in. I'll offer to host the next one at my house in Morgan Hill, which is about a half hour drive south of San Jose off of 101. It's a little out of the way, but hopefully the bonus of hearing some nice vinyl and speaker systems will make it worth your while. I'm suggesting Sunday August 26 from 1:30 to 5pm; please let me know if you're interested and if this date and time will work.

FYI: With this posting you've just changed the
beautifully round 1000 threads counter to
'plain ordinary' 1001.

On the other hand, you just created the 1001st thread.
Congrats!

Hmhmhm, let me see: I think that's the usual free Sunday on the IDF, so I'll probably be able to join in - provided that you want me to.

Would anybody be able to fetch me from San Jose Convention Center/Hilton? That would be great and very helpful, as I won't be able to take the Honda with me.

I could bring along the beyerdynamic DT531, if you want - and either a Panasonic SL-CT570A or a Sony MZ-R70. And maybe I can also add the eDio AS-100 USB-sound-device with Dolby Headphone (provided by the software-DVD-player, not done in hardware).

Greetings from Munich!

So far it looks like a number of people can make it.

Manfred, one reason I picked this day was I thought you might be able to make it, so hopefully someone can give you a ride. MacDEF, if your plans change just let me know.

I know I'm new to this forum (since today) and I dont really know any of you guys or anything and I'm really young, but I'd definately like to go to such a meeting, especially one that close!

It's hard being the only person you know that's into audio (except for 1 friend way up in Washington)!! All my friends are into MTV too!!! ARGH!!!

I've been desperately looking for people with good taste in music and who know a thing or two about the nirvana that can be achieved with a good audio setup....for example here's a conversation I might have with my friends:

Friends: What's up with all your wierd electronic CDs and like really old blues and jazz crap? You should get into cool rap like "The Cash Money Millionares" (LOL!!).

Me: Man, if you guys like hip-hop or whatever, listen to some good stuff like Deltron 3030, UNKLE or DJ Shadow.

Friends: Wha? Who? Ive never heard them on MTV.

More Friends: Man, that new DMX cd sounds so loud on your Bose Lifestyle system. You can feel the bass so much!

Me: AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! (runs away)

See!? I need to be saved!!!
I'd love to attend the meeting, unfortunately i couldn't contribute any good equipment, as most of my setup is either in the mail or being bought soon. But I could bring good music! Sorry to ramble on so much!

Welcome Brian! I don't know if you'll be saved or brought deeper into the audio side which is something altogether different. Don't feel you have to bring equipment. At our first meeting there was too much stuff to listen to all of it. On the other hand you're certainly welcome to bring anything that might be interesting, including music.

Speaking of music, this weekend is the San Jose Jazz festival. It's the largest free jazz festival in the USA. There are some big names coming and the price is right.

Jude, I used to live in Michigan, born there in fact. Airfares are supposed to be cheap right now, so pack up your Max and come on out!
wink.gif
Of course you would risk what happened to me...I came out for a visit and never left. Anyway, I hope you can get a bunch of Michiganders together, as it's a lot of fun.

KurtDubyah,

There's no way in heck the JudeMan can live anywhere that it's more than 70 degrees Fahrenheit regularly. I need winter -- snow!. I need autumn. And, besides that, my family (wife's side and mine) are all over the place around here.

But I do wish I could join you all out there. I remember your pictures on HeadWize from the last one (weren't those pics from your last gathering?). Anyway, please do report back and let us know how the meeting goes.

By the way, whereabouts in Michigan were you born, and how long did you live here and in what places?

Jude, that's what San Francisco proper is for

Temp is usually between 50 and 75, depending on the time of year. Ocean is right here, 30 minutes north or south you get heat, 2 hours away you get REAL mountains and snow. What more could you want?

Snow for what seems like nearly half the year! I love it, man.

I must be adopted. My real parents must've been Inuit.

And besides, that, isn't the cost of living higher in SF proper than just about anywhere else in the universe?
