I recently received the sennheiser pads and would like to know how large of a hole I should cut in them.

I tried the search function, but I couldn't find any detailed instructions.

Thanks!

I'll be happy to measure the holes in mine when I get home (if no one has responded by then, that is...)

A quarter is the standard instruction, but methinks it would be a bit bigger than that.

The most effective and easiest way I have found to do this is to use a socket. Like the kind from a ratchet wrench. Find the size you want, center it good, place it on some cement (like the floor of your garage), and pound around the edges on the socket. It cuts a perfect hole.

Hi, here's a picture of my vwap style pads

Here's them fitted

I cut the hole using the coin mod.

Here are my 3 pads:-

Another view

My 414 pads have the smallest hole when unfitted but they stretch out quite a bit when I put them on.

The only way to make a vwap pad is for vwap to make em. =) They're just regular modded pads otherwise. Also, don't forget the slits.

Yes. I think it'd be a good idea. The vwap pads were based on the flats, IIRC. (they were substitutes since flats were discontinued at the time)

I find the only functions of the slits is to stop the foam vibrating against your ears (only at certain frequencies though) since they are pretty stretched otherwise and to also help with the fitting of the pad. They do mess up the geometry of the hole a bit, or maybe I just don't have vwaps modding skills

Here's a couple links to old threads on Grado pad mods / Vwap:

Here

And here

Lots of reading material, but well worth a look.

I made replacement pads for my SR-225's using the Senn 414 pads, an xacto knife, and a quarter to cut around. They're still in gleaming yellow.

The vwap mod is for the 414, in order to imitate flats.

frenchman, I just looked at my vwaps. The hole diameter is ~1.4", and each of the 8 circumferential slits is .5" long. Hope this helps.
