Most of my post was joking. I had assumed that was the tone of the thread. You posted something you're ashamed of, are you afraid to be yourself? I thought Mariah was on the plane of Yanni and Prince with "people whose music it isn't cool to like if you were born after 1980" but I guess I didn't get the "it's okay, mariah is cool" memo, huh?

Have you seen the movie? I havent (and don't plan to), but why are you ashamed of someone if you like their music, just because they made a movie that you laugh at?

I'm sorry, I guess I'm not "hip" like the rest of my generation for not conforming to social norms like being ashamed of someones music because other people think that they're horrible for making such a dumb movie.

MacDEF: Part of why I picked Yanni and Prince to drag into that post is because I like them both In fact, I've been to a Yanni concert, and I enjoyed it. While I haven't been to a prince concert, I love singing along to his songs. They're in the same league because, um, they're short, and my mother thinks they are both hot . . . (hey, you asked!) They really aren't in the same league any more than they're in a league with Mariah, I was just tossing out ideas of what some of my friends can't stand.

Audio&Me: Please, explain to me where I went wrong. Actually, forget it. I know where I went wrong -- attempting to inject humor into a thread that I THOUGHT had a humorous tone. You think it's okay to be ashamed to like Shakira, but it's not okay to be ashamed of liking Mariah Carey? Your absolute and complete inability to take a joke, combined with your determination to cut me down no matter how I try to make things lighthearted again, pretty much eliminates any respect I had for you.
