I want a external sound card thats better than the onboard sound on my laptop. (Compal CL56). I've used search and seen the AudioTrak Optoplay pop up a few times for a cheap option, but wondering if they would work ok with my specific headphones?

Another curiosity is that newegg doesnt sell the Optoplay but they do have an Audiotrak Maya EX5 and search didn't turn up any results for this external soundcard.

Thanks

I bought a M-Audio Transit for my HD590 recently. It works better than any onboard soundcard in my laptops, brings out more details, warmer and more pleasant for listening especially vocals, although i haven't felt much improvement in bass (i am wondering about that?). It is about same price compared to AudioTrak Optoplay and supposed to be a little better than the Optoplay. You may consider it. I paid it for 69$ including shipping, and i noticed its price went down for 58$ in some sites.

I used the Opto Play with HD590's for quite a while and was very happy with them until the upgrade bug hit...
