I use Exact Audio Copy as well with LAME compressor. I didn't know Foobar could edit tags! I'm gonna have to give that a try...

Frankly for my particular style of use, it is the finest tagger out there, simple, efficient and practically foolproof and it allows tag formation using its guess from filenames feature.
Rip a CD and give it a try, it was fun for me to learn it and now it is very simple to play arond with

I use iTunes. It automatically creates a folder hierarchy that sorts by artist and album name. I typically make a playlist for each album as well.

I use Apple Lossless and AAC but iTunes will work with mp3 as well.

Since I also share my files, I keep them well ordered in multiple directories. Thus I have no need for databases. I used Tag&Rename for tagging, but foobar is more useful for me now.

Since I seem to be in the minority, I was wondering what motivation you have for adding the extra step of tagging (instead of doing it at the same time you rip). Or am I mistaken in thinking that lame can take tag values at the command-line?

I don't use lame for encoding music, rather I stick to FLAC.
Also even though there are quite a few facilities available for tagging while ripping, information such as who are the performers and conductors etc. can't be added with the current file naming limit of 128 charac.
This is of course with classical music.
With most other music tagging can be done whil,e ripping, but I like to keep the collection clean and tagged as I see fit
That is why, I utilise Foobar to actually go throught he tags of albums I rip and make them as perfect as possible, cos they are carried across when I convert the music
Hope that helps

Tag&Rename does the job for me if I need to tag or rename files. For my rips I use EAC and it adds the tags for me. Sometimes I will also use foobar's facilities for tagging. I use this format for my stuff:

Artist\Album\## - Track Name.flac

Where ## is the track number.
