From someone who doesn't know anything about tubes... But aspires to know a lot one day:

What is tube rolling?

PS Try searching for this and reading through 27 pages of posts!

Tube Rolling - The act of switching tubes of the same general class, from different manufacturers, and different years of manufacture into the tube sockets of a piece of audio gear in order to listen to the differences in sound. This is usually done in order to improve or tailor the sound to the listeners liking.

Taking a tube out and replacing it with another. Taking a tube out often required a slight twist or roll in order to take it out.

Tube rolling is the action of changing the tube to a different one to give an other "flavor/quality" to the amp.

EDIT: Should try to type faster next time but then it's all full of typo and mistake.

Hell even typing slowly and rereading 2-3 times there is still plenty.
