If anyone on the list has a digital camera/webcam, feel free to take a pic of the THSP with your gear and post it here!

Lots of opportunities for a few photos as it travels around the country...

One more thing... please sign the box with a black felt pen before you pass it on. Hopefully it will stick.

I'd like to cover it in signatures like those old suitcases from the 50's with tons of travel stickers all over them.

Nick,

You've started a good thing here. I've had my MG Head OTL since December, but I've yet to do any tube-rolling with it. Please add me to your growing list.

I'm lucky enough to live about 30 minutes from Triode and a few hours from Tube-World. If you were to suggest ONE 5751 now, what would it be? Do you have a top 10 list going yet?

I'll be going to Triode Monday to get replacments for the stock tubes, so if you have any recommendations, I'm listening.

TIA

Further impressions: (note that I won't be posting a "full wrap-up review")

GE5963- Crisper highs, slightly boomy bass, needs to be turned up a bit, nicely detailed. Pretty good... Not the best of the lot, but good if you want a cheap upgrade.

ITT7025- Doesen't glow as brightly as the others

, unobtrusive bass that's still rendered very well, almost treble-heavy (bright?), does very nicely with flute/violin/harpsichord, a top pick for chamber music. The bass does exist though, and it goes pretty deep. Sounds almost like Etys. Real nice tube. IMHO second only to the Sylvie 5751.

I'll have to retract my comments about the ITT's bass... after a bit of warm-up it really fills out nicely, although it dosen't go as deep as I thought it did. It still is really excellent in the highs though...

Yet further impressions of the Tung-Sol, after ~20min warm-up-
Top end isn't as good as I thought it is. It's a bit too recessed for my tastes. However, the midrage is nice and warm, and complemented nicely by the bass. Final word? Nice if you're not into classical. *puts on Pink Floyd to see if preceding statement is true* *finds guitar solo* WHOA! This tube likes Floyd

The two match up very well. The guitar and vocals and everything else are really, well, perfect! Nice and clear; the Tung's warm mids and bass are the perfect complement to this music... The guitar work sounds really smooth... I think I'll call this the Neruda Tube... (he's into Floyd. Really much so.)

Interesting... The Arcturus makes some staticky noises whenever I move the volume knob... Odd. It's probably my least favorite tube.

Just for the heck of it, I stuck the JJ back in... Gaak! Lots of hiss, boomy bass, albeit a warm midrange. I don't like this tube as much as the Arcty. It will be so hard to go back to using this guy... Maybe I should "accidentally break" a tube

Ah well...

It's amazing how keeee-RAPPY those stock tubes sound after doing a bit of rolling.

It is also strange how some tubes will make turning the volume detents audible, and others won't. It isn't a quality issue since the kick ass Sylvania tube also does this. Hmmmmmm.

Already time to ship it out? That was quick!

Dont forget to take a pic of the THSP with your gear and post it here if you can. Also sign the box with a felt pen. Hopefully, it will stick!

It helps to put a tube in, turn on the amp, and play a game of CounterStrike/Firearms/DayOfDefeat/UT CTF, then listen. Gives you something to do while they're warming up...
