These were my criteria for my headphones. Todd from headphone.com recommened em, but I wanted to ask you guys also.

1. It has to have pretty good bass, and decent mids and highs.
2. It has to have portability. It doesn’t have to be teeny, but it has
to fit in a backpack without much work.
3. It has be isolated. I tend to crank it, and my roomie gets annoyed
that he can hear my music from my headphones.
4. It has to look decent/cool. The Grados sound great, but they look
crappy.
5. I would like to spend under $50, but im flexible.
6. It has to be durable. I break a lotta stuff.
7. Used for a little gaming, listening on the go, but for the most part its for sitting down at the computer and listening to mp3s, watching some dvds or some tv. I listen to everything from Miles Davis to hard rap.

I was also looking at the Koss UR20/30, MX500 or maybe wait for the Koss UR40?

Any help appreciated.

The 212s have got to be better than the UR30. Comments about the UR30 say they're muddy and boomy, not good at all. The 212s are going to have a much clearer, even tone. Check reviews of the 497 to get an idea of the sound since the 212 is just a closed version of those. I'm thinking that the 212s are not going to be very isolating, but that's just a guess. You might want to look at the Sony V6 ($60 + shipping from etronics). The V6 folds up fairly small for portability, the 212 does not. The V6's bass is also going to have more impact, the 212 will go deep but you'll hear it more than feel it. The V6 is probably more durable as well.
