Does FiiO have a right to treat you all as unpaid Beta testers?

Should not the firmware be 99% stable before release? It seems to me that no one can expect to see a FiiO DAP work as advertised unless you're willing to put up with very annoying bugs for at least 12 months.

I was thinking of waiting for the X7 II, but I don't think I'm happy to suffer all these types of problems. At $500 we are entitled to expect a flawless 'working as advertised' product, without hiccup. But here, we see one post after the next - nothing but issues. It should be illegal to release a product in this condition. Government regulators need to step in, because no other company on earth is permitted to release a half baked product full of dysfunction. Money is hard to come by, you deserve better. IMO FiiO is proving that it's modus operandi and business ethos is amateur and disrespectful, and taking you all for granted.

Just because we're afficianados it doesn't mean we are doormats. My money deserves better. Do the AK DAPs have better reliability off the bat? What about Sony? I don't think you'll encounter such widespread issues on a Song DAP. I guess the old saying is true... you get what you pay for.

I'll check out the WM1A.

Do you own an X5iii?  Exactly what bugs are you experiencing?  Please list.

And I mean the bugs YOU are experiencing, not parotting someone else.  Thanks

The whole thread (and every other FiiO thread) validates my post. Again I ask... does FiiO have a right to treat us all as unpaid beta testers. You're opinion please. Thanks.

Provocative question. The answer is "No, of course not." and I don't think they have. But, there may be some trade off buying state of the art stuff from a small niche player. On the plus side, Fiio seem very responsive to requests & ideas as well as complaints and user errors.

I have experienced no significant problems with the product or the firmware and this is my 1st android DAP. Only had ipod and cheap mp3 players until now, so as a novice I would expect to hit more problems with lack of familiarity. Yet, I find X5(3) a good product. Sure, I had a steep learning curve and have crawled all over the settings to see what it does (I think layout & structure of settings could be easier). And, yes there are some minor bugs, like Chinese characters in song titles like Rudiger (because "u" has 2 dots over it) and there is some functionality I would like, such as import & scanning of playlists because the suggested m3u dropper is rubbish. And, on Search the resulting song does not come with album art / title so not always clear which version of an artist's song to choose.

However, I do not mess with the ROM, I do not use streaming, and the only 3rd party app I've installed is MediaMonkey.

For what it is worth, my experience with the likes of Microsoft & its iterations of DOS to Windows has been far more painful and they have billions of users and thousands of developers.

I'd had no issues with mine.

Neither have I. It would be interesting to compare the number of posts reporting problems that can definitely be placed at the feet of Fiio with the total number of units sold.
All we need is for someone to total the number of complainants in this forum and for Fiio to give us their sales figures to date! Won't be definitive but should support what we all suspect: that people who don't have a problem don't post. They are too busy enjoying music.....

I think there is also a percentage of reported errors that might be due to user knowledge rather than a flaw with the unit. In their defence, the user documentation for the X5iii is probably the most pitiful I've ever seen from any electronic device I've ever purchased. So it's no wonder people are finding it difficult to find their way around the thing. I know I had to fiddle a lot to figure out many of the options - like how to shuffle music? Took me a few days to figure it out.

There are also a few chiming in with negativity who have never actually used one, let alone own one. But that's common in every forum I've ever read.

The UI from the video walk through I watched seems like it has too many functions on the screen.  It would probably be too confusing for me to get the hang of.  I think a lot of people post their problems with anything on Head-Fi multiple times so it probably does get somewhat blown out of proportion and then we get people calling out the company and its products without ever trying them for themselves.  Not all people post their problems with a particular product more than once, but some do.  The UI looks pretty difficult from the Youtube videos I have watched on them, but that also does not give me the right to cry foul on the company without trying it myself.

Take care

Moved to own thread as it has no real relevance to the X5iii specifically.

From my own personal experience, I disagree with the OP (and I have extensive use with most FiiO DAPs and amps).

I would like (again) to know how much experience the OP actually has with FiiO products to make this assertion?

I have just come across my first problem, as an example. My X5 won't play files from my server by DNLA. A friend has no problem whatever. A problem at my end? Don't know and too much of a hassle to find out. Solution? Use foobar2000 - works like dream. Agree about the complexity of the UI though. Add lyrics? Wonderful, but it took me a week to find that option.

Dear you speak just like Fiio X5III is a big bugs box and imo it works quite well, I had own five different Fiio DAPs and all of them had worked like a swiss clock, included the X5III. Sometimes I think people is looking for bugs desperately in order to show how bad is that product that make happy a lot of people for a reasonable price.
