Well, pleased to announce not, that my Zen Extra is on the way back to Creative for the third time with the broken headphone jack. Called creative and they said they might be able to fix it for free as this is the third time that it has happened. The guy from creative that I was talking to on the phone said that he had never heard of the broken head phone jack problem. Ya right! Anyways this thing is a total pain in the ass and I would recommend anyone thinking about buying one of these players to think again. And of course to get the extended warranty.

This is very strange indeed...

Maybe you are penetrating the hole too hard?
Or your jack is too long?

You know those factors will hurt the hole

The Zen Xtra headphone jack problem has been acknowledged and fixed by Creative Labs. The reports of headphone jack problems on the Nomadness.net are relatively low these days.

The headphones jack of all new Zen Xtras now come reinforced so they won’t break so easy. You can spot the newer Zen Xtras because they now come in a heat-sealed blister pack and come with a case that has a window for the screen.

sanukmac, gee, i dont know how you treat your xtra(s), but my first-gen (ie unreinforced) version is still chugging along perfectly after almost 10 months of continuous use.

Don't go scaring me like that. I just received my 60g Xtra two days ago from newegg and it does not have the new case with the window, so I'm guessing it's not reinforced. Well, a full 10 hours or so of use (the battery indicator is still showing what looks like half full!), and no probs with the jack.
