The last good phone from HTC was M8. I think this company simply goes straight road into bankrupcy - no good solutions, apple-ish prices. And no 3,5 mm jack.

gsmarena always does that, and they use whatever leaked or rumored pictures, just gsmarena creating a page based on the leaks and speculations so far, they do it for every phone before it comes out
Ok. lol
Well hopefully the no buttons thing and 3.5mm jack being there is right, and speakers thing isn't. lol

I was (and still am) hoping these rumored pics are wrong and that HTC will bring back Classic BoomSound, but who knows at this point? Even this new latest pic makes it look like the 11/U will look like the 10.

New article indicates that the no headphone jack statement seems more likely now, BUT we go from the 10's IP53 rating to the 11's alleged IP57 rating!! The difference is IP53 can handle "sprays" of water, while IP57 means the phone can be fully submerged in up to 1 meter of water for no more than 30 minutes. BIG difference there! Glad to see HTC is finally offering this as an option (assuming it's true, which I think it will be).
Also, I just noticed that HTC USA has finally lowered the price of the 10 once again from $599 to $499 as of today, and also the U Ultra went from $749 to $599. This lends even more credibility to the prediction that the 11 will be announced any day now.

Hey Sound,
I can understand that. To be honest, I'm not too pleased to hear that either. But I won't say it's a deal breaker for me though. Whether or not HTC supplies an adapter to deal with this, I can still buy one off Amazon. I'm NOT ready to go back to Samsung, even if they ARE using AKG earphones. And forget LG with their bootloop issues and weak ahsss cameras. lol

so ur iems or headphones will need to have a certain cable which is a hassle, otherwise u will rely on cheap dac in the adapter like what apple is offering. sorry bro that is no can do for me

I'd be very careful about buying an adapter other than the HTC one unless you have first-hand information that it works with the U (or at least the U Ultra or 10 Evo/Bolt). I've seen HTC U Ultra owners reporting third party and Motorola adapters not working with their phones (e.g. in this thread).
As the 3.5mm adapters contain active components (DAC and amp) the quality of the sound will depend on the adapter, which is a further concern if there are compatibility issues. You would think that it would be in everyone's interests to stick to standards (Apple excepted, who seem to love proprietary connectors), but it seems we're not there yet. Can only hope that HTC have built a good one, but I've had no luck finding an actual review of the audio quality through their adapter.

what i meant is to listen to the htc then this means you iem or heapdphone cable must have something similar to lighting cable , so I assume with the htc your iem or headphone cable will have be terminated by usb c
or you will listen through an adapter that htc will provide which has a built in dac
in both cases that sucks

Wait wait..............Super..............let me ask you a question:
Since the audio/music would be coming out of the USB-C (digital) port and not the 3.5mm (analog) port, what will this mean for the DAC then? In order for the high-quality DAC to be utilized, the signal must be digital and IN NEED of conversion to analog, but if it's going through the digital USB-C port, does that mean the DAC will be bypassed (this is all assuming the 11 will have the same HIGH-QUALITY DAC/AMP ((BOTH dedicated)) that the 10 had)?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If so, then how will ANYONE be able to utilize the DAC?!!!!!
I'll make sure to use HTC's official adapter if needed, but then (again), how do you use the DAC on the phone????!

No, there will be no use for the DAC as USB-C does not transmit in analog. It will only operate for the phone speakers and phone calls.

WOW. Wow.
I am speechless. lol
How dumb is HTC for doing this then? If the 10 is the last phone with a 3.5mm jack, then the 10 is also the LAST HTC phone I will ever buy. lol
WHY can't they just put in a DADC chip?! Yes, I DID just invent that term! LOL A chip that will convert the digital signal to analog (while working its "magic") and then BACK to digital so the USB-C port can be utilized without degrading the sound?!!
F. Now I may have to go back to SamDUNG or even cheap-o Sony in the future. damn x 10,000,000,000!!!!!!!! lol

I think your basic assumption, that the U will have the 10's DAC/amp combo, is incorrect. Look at the U Ultra as the best indicator of what to expect (also USB-C only output). Digital output with the DAC being in the headphones or in an intermediate device.
The HTC USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is an active device with upgradable firmware, not a simple adapter for an analogue signal. I'm 100% sure that the DAC and amp are inside the adapter, like the Moto adapter and Apple's Lightning to 3.5mm adapter.

Yeah but the U Ultra wasn't REALLY a flagship anyway. lol
But maybe you're right, sadly. lol
Thanks for clearing this up. This is tragic news for HTC. Can't believe how stupid they are to do this.
There's no point in having a great DAC if they're gonna run with this headphone jack-less setup anyway! lol
