Sony/B&W/HTC/AKG/Sennheiser/MISC Thread

The difference is that MOST laptops and MOST phones are given the crappiest audio components available b/c most ppl don't think the audio quality on their device is THAT important, so the makers go cheap there in order to save money. That's why it's essential if you want the best quality (or even just BETTER) that you play from a device that uses a good quality DAC & amp set up, or else through a good DAC/amp device.

I think they both in general will suck. lol That is why you must do what I just said above in order to ensure you're getting the best quality. Yeah but that doesn't mean the PC's audio is superior. If you have an audiophile phone especially like the HTC 10 or LG V20, the PC's quality won't compare (unless you got something special installed in the PC).

Yeah new speakers would be cool, but they will only sound as good as your PC will allow them, and also how good they sound depends on the music. Is it mp3, or is it CD-Quality? Hi-Res?

weird because almost everything about a PC is superior to a phone though or anything that small of a size. Like GPU/CPu etc. do you notice a difference between listenting to music on the PC like youtube/soundcloud/bandcamp etc vs on your phone.

Yes I do, though I haven't extensively compared them as much as phone vs. DAP or amp/DAC device.

Yeah I saw that already and I think posted it in here too. Glad to see Sony contributing.

apparently they are going to make LDAC a standard in android O. I never thought sony would be contributing xd. Makes me wonder why they turned down making a nexus phone for google.

but yeah some of these software features already existed on xperia devices prior. maybe they will get useful expertise from this to further optimize their software. They seem to be focusing on audio finally.

Forget Bose. It's overrated. AKG is better AND cheaper typically.

Here are your 2 options. Both are highly rated, but the 2nd one is probably better because it has 50mm speaker driver's vs. 40mm, which means more than likely the 2nd one will have a WIDER soundstage (wider sound = more awesomeness). Read the reviews on both.

Both also let you listen with the cable for a small bump in volume and quality. I actually tried the 2nd one a while back and was pretty impressed by it. Never tried the Y50BT though.

AKG Y50BT: 1) Rating  2) Buy on Amazon

AKG K845BT: 1) Rating  2) Buy on Amazon

If you're open to spending over $300, I MAY have better options for you. Let me know if you are.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your advice. I chose the y50bt due to portability reasons :) i tried the bose, and yes its overrated although it might be a good excercise earphones but for office purposes, akg is a better fit. So far happy with the performance of the y50bt. Sound and clarity is great. Good balance for me Worth it for the price. For the 300 dollar price range, what do you recommend?

because sony relies on their proprietary stuff and brand names. Xperia, ldac, superior auto, triluminous, mdr line of headphones, play station software, their walkman music player. They want their brand name and products to go with their phone.
We still don't know if LDAC will be available for everyone or if it's just to make it easier to use sony headphones with non sony phones

some laptops like macbooks, samdung notebook 9, and msi gaming laptops have good DACs, it's just the cheapo ones that do it and gives a bad reputation to the pc market due to consumers who are not educated about better products then assume mac os is just "faster"

You're very welcome!

That's cool. Glad you like it!

The K845BT is pretty portable too though. I walked around my living room with it on when I was trying it out, and it stayed on pretty well from what I remember. And it's only $30 more than the Y50BT. It's actually just the BT version of AKG's K545 headphones, which are also highly-rated too. If you feel like you want more or a wider soundstage than what you're getting now, then you should reconsider them. But again, AKG is awesome so either way it's all good!

Well, I'm not sure actually now. The other suggestions I had were actually only if you wanted ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) too. If not, then disregard. Let me know.

Also, what is your source? Phone? DAP? Phone + amp/DAC or amp?! You wanna make sure you got a good source with some punch to it in order to properly drive your headphones. AKG (well all headphones really) sound their BEST when you have a PROPER DAP or amp/DAC device powering them. Let me know.

Hopefully the latter..............if they're gonna contribute it to Android, then it shouldn't be proprietary IMO.

Ok that's cool. I know some out there have good ones, but in general I would say not. Most ppl don't buy gaming laptops. I don't! lol

the samdung ativ book 12.2" is going for $470 second hand and it has a fast 256gb ssd, 8gb ram, and pretty much the same screen as the macbook. It's a really good value for what you're paying for, it's also super light and has a dedicated dac

you mean the former, we want ldac to be available for everyone, not just a tactic for sony to use their exclusive ldac sony headsets with any android

Hmm............interesting specs! And great price too! The screen sounds a bit small though, but at that price I can't complain too much. lol

Yes, former. lol

Essential may shake up the smartphone industry and could potentially give Samsung and Apple their first real competitor -- at least when it comes to taking away market share. Industry vets, including Jason Mackenzie, who served as HTC's global vice president before departing HTC in January, will be Essential's head of sales.
