Color me in, when that becomes available...the A5 is a good match, so the stack will look really good!
Black a5 + red x5 = SHWING!!
yeah that's going to be killer!!

I finally got this in yesterday, and due to my excitement (and stupidity...), I ended up inserting the microSD card without the tray first. I spent the next 2 hours shopping for a tweezer small enough to grab it and trying to pull the damn thing out. It still works fine, though the card and slot now has minor nicks along the edges... Thankfully, the included case hides it all...

Could anyone tell me if the black version is titanium colored with a layer of black paint?
In other words: if you scratch the metal of the black version will it show a light scratch?

I've had my X5 iii for a week now. Come up against the problem of not being able to get all my library of 43000 scanned, mine stops at about 7200, but at least Fiio have acknowledged the problem and promised new Firmware to solve this.
It does sound fantastic though, through my B&W P5s
In the meantime I'm using other third party apps - Tried Poweramp and Neutron. These scan my library correctly and quickly and list the songs correctly. I find the buttons on the side don't work correctly fly when not in Fiio music - stop works ok but play puts the song in fast forward. Headset buttons do the same thing. Has anybody else tried the buttons with third party apps?
Finally, my thoughts on how the listing can be improved:
The default should be artist then album then songs, not artist then songs as at present
Leading 'The' and 'a' should be ignored when listing - this happens on nearly all other media players or software. So The Beatles should be ousted under B not T
Accented or non standard characters in tags are showing up as Chinese characters
My lists seem to go Z - A rather than alphabetically, can't find a way to change this.
Would also be great if we could edit tags in Fiio Music?
I've never bought Fiio before but their quick acknowledgement admitting problems and promising to work to put them right impresses me. Apple and everybody else always deny a problem exists and thus never correct them. Looking forward to getting the new firmware and getting enjoyment from my full music collection!

Hi, i have review unit X5-3rd for 4 days now and im sending it to next guy, because i don't enjoy it. It is not fair to judge player after such a short while, so don't take this mini review too seriously.
I had great expectations about sound quality based on great reviews, dual ak4490 dac, brand's name and price tag and those expectations weren't fulfilled. Compared to 2nd gen, it is less harsh on higher volume and it has more powerfull and heavier feeling lowend. On the other hand it is a bit less engaging and a bit dull sounding. It is not cold or detail heavy sounding, it isn't warm or musical either. Instruments sound unnatural. There is no soundstage/sense of space to me. Fiio x7 or Astell AK120 II sounds more natural and musical. Studio 3rd anv is way better with highs and details. Astell JR is much more musical with better vocals and soundstage. It might improve with burn in. It might be just bad pairing with my headphones. Don't know. Enjoyment from music isn't there and i don't like not just it's sound:
Volume knob is on left, so it can't be used by thumb....dont like it.
It takes way too long to start the unit.
It is quite big and heavy for portable pocket player for my taste.
USB DAC has delay issues (at least with my review unit version unit and firmware)
I used player only in PURE MUSIC mode, so no idea how online services and wifi works.
Im old school. I don't like smartphones. I don't like spotify or alike. I won't use symmetrical out or VIPER effects (whatever that is). This player might be great unit for people who are into those things, but for somebody as me, it doesn't justify it's price. Not even close. If i would buy player with limited budget just for sound quality, i would go elswhere. I like Fiio's customer service and support and i still think they make products with great value, but X5 3rd doesn't check it for me. If i ever buy android device for music with touch screen and wifi and such, it will have to have camera and phone function as well. This android wifi audio players are jack of all trades, kings of none for me.
