Hi, I'm looking for a closed back HP for office use. 90% time in classical so that would be my primary consideration.

I auditioned the AKG K550 for once (straight out of a MacBook Pro) and really liked it for its clarity and soundstage. But some other more expensive options are catching my eye. In particular, MrSpeakers Mad Dogs and Oppo PM-3 gets a lot of praise here and orthodynamic sounds quite interesting to me as I've never tried one (but I remember someone said they are not really suitable for classical? And do I need amp for these ortho's) Shure SRH1540 is also an opition. I used SRH1840 for some time years ago and quite liked its neutral signature, only left it because the 60+ impendance/90+ sensitivity turned out to be not as easy to drive as I expected.

Budget is under $300, willing to bump up a bit for really good choices but something like the Beyerdynamic T5P would be way out of my range. No-amp is preferred but maybe consider adding a little portable one.

Thx.

I'd suggest a pair of headphones however the tables seem to turn very quickly on black Friday.
Keep your eyes out on Cyber Monday, I'll follow the thread and give a response if you find any deals.  A couple days ago there was an amazing deal on closed-back Sennheiser headphones in Canada that was unprecedented, I would have suggested it to you but I found your thread after the deal ended.

I have not much experience with AKG, Shure or Beyerdynamic so I think your best bets will be tomorrow, on Cyber Monday.

If you don't find anything, ask again on Tuesday, I'll try to find something for you.

Hope this could help,
-Nemo

Thx Nemo. I did some search and it only gave me headache. Most likely I'll avoid taking the risk and get a K550/K553, the only one I auditioned. It's much cheaper than other choices and at under $150 I really can't fault it.
