So I play a ton of FPS games mostly CSGO and I want the best possible sound to hear footsteps in the game. Everything else doesn't matter to me, I got other headphones for music.
Also I currently don't have a soundcard in my computer, so if I need a soundcard I'll buy that too but I need to know what soundcard.
Budget is 1000 dollars at max for both soundcard and headphones.

Need suggestions on mic's aswell if I'm buying headphones without a mic.

Any help is appreciated as I don't know too much about headphones

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound card, $60-$80.
Audio Technica ATH-AD700X headphones, $130

That should give you a nice FPS gaming audio setup.

  Would that be some of the best I could get for footsteps in a FPS game? Also what mic would you recommend for those?

The retail boxed version of the SB-Z card comes with a microphone.
I guess the modmic is recommend a lot.

Might try reading up and asking on this thread.

Thanks for the help! I looked at the thread a bit but I'm still not sure what to buy... Saw someone saying that the HD650 were good for CSGO which is what I play the most. Don't know if you have had any experience with them, but do you think they're better than ad700x for pure FPS gaming?

I doubt the HD650 are better then the AD700X for FPS gaming, but I'm not the expect.

The AD700X have a very solid reputation as one of the best headphones for FPS gaming.
I do not see HD650 owners pushing the HD650 for FPS gaming, but many I'm not read up enough on them.

  Thanks again. Now should I use the virtual surround that I get from the soundcard?

Yep, used the surround sound from the SB-Z card.
I like to disable the motherboard's on-board audio, in the BIOS, when installing an add-on internal sound card.

I was just about to buy the ad700x when I saw a thread saying that the akg k701-2 are just as good as ad700x. And where I'm from the AKG k702 are cheaper than ad700x. I'm still thinking the ad700x because I've read that they're some of the best for FPS gaming. But in most of the threads the akg k702 cost twice as much as the ad700x which makes most people buy the ad700x instead. So I'm not sure if it's the price that makes people go for ad700x or if it's because they're actually better for FPS games compared to the k702. Hope you understand what I mean.

AKG = 176 USD

ad700x = 200 USD

Both prices are for new headphones.

I am not familiar with the soundcard you have but the whole AKG K7 series while being amazing for FPSs,they do need some pretty decent amping...whether or not what you have will provide that or not is something Purple Angel can answer better than I.

  I was going to buy the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound card that PurpleAngel recommended, because I currently don't have a sound card

@PurpleAngel knows a heck of a lot more about soundcards than I do,and I think from reading this thread that recommendation is based upon on AD 700x...which might also work for the K702,IDK.

What i do know is the K& series as I said is no joke when it comes to being properly amped....my Astro Mixamp drove my 300ohm HD600s and 250 ohm DT770s no problem but couldnt come close to driving my K7XX.

Where are you located?

The AD700X is very easy to drive, so will easy be driven by any smart phone or on-board audio or add-on sound card.
Whereas the AKG K702 needs to be used with a decent headphone amplifier to sound their best.

So, yes, it's normally the lower price of the AD700(X) that makes it more popular.

The AKG 700 series have a very spacial surround sound, which is well liked.

I'm from Denmark where everything is overpriced hehe.

So I wouldn't be able to run the k702's with just a sound card? If not then I'll probably just go with the ad700x and the sound blaster sound card, since they're just easier to drive and only cost 25 dollars more.

Seems like ad700x is the better choice for pure competitive FPS gaming too.
