PROJECT WA5+++: Power Up! Lets Rock and Roll!
Dec 10, 2016 at 11:31 PM Post #16 of 122
Dust cleaning my one-year-old WA22 today, and about to box it again to make my lab room for the coming WA5. For curiosity, open the chassis to check everything inside, that is quality work in a neat arrangement!

My WA22 drives the AKG -K1000 headphone with some impressive result, and I intended to plug in the KK headphone during the WA5 first impression listerning sessions,WA5 is expected to present sonic at its own class, can't wait to learn the difference!

Pretty.
Them Woo guys do good work.

My WA22 with selected vintage tubes and output to the LCD3/w Ref.16 cable is an amazing combo for unforgettable effect. I learnt that some WA22 were maxxed with better caps. for sonic improvement, perhaps I would also DIY some time later.

Anyway,I will keep my WA22 though I have the WA5 now. And also can't wait to check things inside my WA5 .....:p

Though I already have my WA5 ordered and I personally prefer the original WA5 design,I agree with the seller that they are one-of-a-kind customed made amps deserve to be enjoyed by someone who will appreciate them!

Anyway, help with a push in my thread, check this offer at ebay if interested.

Quoted item description from the seller:

Interesting find, perhaps worth mentioning; they seem to have only speaker outputs and no headphone outputs.

Yes, from the pics, they only come with 4 & 8 ohms speaker outputs, but an external headphone adapter may be attached below, a circuit I got for DIY work  or send the AMPs back to Woo for custom built headphone output.

Would like to learn what the new owner is going to do with the Mono Amp pairs .....

Considering that the 300B Mono-block AMPs are at half of the price of a brand new WA5 (the seller also accept counter best offer), I would have the deal if I found them before ordering my WA5. And as a head-fier, I would probably DIY a headphone adapter in XLR/ 6.3 outputs with various cable options, and may also add a Woo WEE to the AMPs for  driving STAX headphones.

It would generally take 2 weeks for WA5 delivery, it makes sense to wait four weeks for custom-built unit, anyway, I was told to expect to have my heaviest treasure ever by the Christmas, 4 more days, keep counting everyday, counting every hour, every minute …… every second ..... LOL

Latest progress update from Woo,my WA5 finally done! And it delivered stunning sonic with some latest high quality production 300B & 274B tubes!

But it still needs some more time for the well-made 36-inch DC cable and would take one more week to deliver the full package! So no surprise in Christmas, but hopefully for celebrating the New Year!

Now I shall reset my step-down counter again for another 7 days, keep counting and counting, time seems freezing ......

Woo shared some lovely pics of my WA5 and the custom-made DC cable with the message "The new cord liberates a sense of space, refine clarity, and resolve in the sibilant".

The bright DC cable connected my WA5 in black in a high-contrast fashion, now this is something looks very cool!

They are ready to dispatch everything in next few days, expecting to meet my fully armed WA5+++ sometime in the 2nd week of Jan 2017.

How does that cable differ from the stock cable other than length?
How does it make it sound better?

This cable is made of Single crystal copper instead of Oxygen-free copper used by the stock cable, the comment given by Woo is somewhat similar to my personal experience, I would conclude it in one word "Purified" sonic, significant effect IMHO but YMMV.

Thanks for the reply.
Sounds interesting.
Regrettably, I'm a big believer in cable.

Actually, I upgraded my power cables for AMPs and DAC, once I experienced the difference in effect delivered by the SCC wires (and its length). That makes sense to me and is why I also asked for a custom-built DC cable for my WA5.

I will soon prove that (one of the experiment is to learn how far the difference in effect between the stock cable and this SCC cable on WA5) it worth the additional cost, via my own ears, no instruments measures ...... LOL
