hd 598 are better sounding to my ears in the beginning, please consider that IN THE BEGINNING please
for me the 650s ended up being way better but you have to get use to the sound once you have the 650s for a month or 2 you will put on 598 and notice something is missing and ill tell you what it is depth and imaging if you like highs you will say that 598 are better i personally love highs treble etc... but you start noticing the hd 650s are better in most thing even though the might sound less exciting at first
So would you say it's worth the extra 60 pounds?

HD 650s are endgame for some folks here on head-fi. They will sound OK out of a smartphone, aleast on my they did, but they didnt get louder than moderate listening levels. They will need an amp to really shine.

  So, maybe:

Sennheiser HD 650 (246 @ amazon UK)
or
Beyerdynamic T90 (289 @ amazon UK)
or
AKG K712  (190 @ amazon UK)

All of them need an amp. My preference is HD650, but it's ugly!

I agree with Nekrosov. HD650 is an amazing headphone.

Definitely agree with the 650, I've got that and the 598. They are in a different class, even when driving directly from my phone. To reach their full potential it's worth considering amping though

Yeah I might consider an AMP in the future, but in terms of portable use, at the moment I'm thinking the HD 650 or Meze 99 classics
