RHA Dacamp L1, CL1 Ceramic & CL750 Review Tour

My views on the ceramics were based on them at their best through the balanced

Well I can't comment on their balanced as I haven't heard it.

But in my experience with most balanced DAPs I've heard (and I've heard a few now) - the differences are often overblown.  No-one - bothers to volume match properly - and no-one blind tests.  And unless the balanced operates on a totally different circuit with some pretty big filters in place to attenuate that lower treble (and I've never seen a balanced set-up do that before) - then I'm afraid ......

Chris (@Hawaiibadboy) did you get a chance to compare balanced vs SE on the CL1?  Any improvement?  Did it transform them?

I am a big balanced fan because it seems to give more clarity in left and right panning and some things centered by design on regular SE seem to be more focused on the left or right channel much like an old 2 speaker systems and I like my sound like that. My video on the ceramics noted scooped mid and odd treble. Balanced will not enhance mids and/or tame treble. Staging and channel separation only. Balanced made no difference for me on Pink Floyd's "On the Run" and the missing dialogue and Nick Mason's odd sounding cymbal tapping were same.

I am pretty inflexible with my test track selection and sonic cues that I look for. That limits my review but keeps it focused so it's value depends on the viewer. Your graph and notes on the treble are exactly what my vid said.

It shoulda been available on their web page like Fiio has been doing for years.

Thanks BTW.

My opinion of the flagship was different from all others. I felt it was not tuned like a $600 IEM or even $300 IEM that is the TOTL in a series. Your graphs are what I heard.

That recessed area is where the woman's voice on the Floyd track is and it was hard to catch.  Lotta vocals in that scoop area. I am a basshead and known EQ tweaker but I don't wanna have to do that. The Fidue A83 are half the price and better tuned IMO.

The dacamp?   THAT....is a righteous piece of awesome kit. LOVE IT!
you are spot on. It is very recessed for me to listen to vocals. Great job by Brooko on the measurements!

Good, honest reviews. I like how you kept it straight forward. You got to the point and made it. Good stuff.:beers:

Thanks, I appreciate it. I prefer to spend a lot more time with a product than is usually permitted on a tour, so covering three very different products in the allotted time was a bit of a challenge for me. Definitely missed some things, but overall I think I got my thoughts across. Kinda just wanted to spend the whole time with the CL750, lol. Handily my favorite of the bunch.

I agree! I've got a couple items backed up for review with others on the way...only so much time in the day! I have to say I do like that, though. Keeps me from roaming the streets looking for trouble.:grimacing:

Interesting comparison.  I have the CL750 right now and it is certainly treble happy, but I personally did not find it piercing, but we all hear differently!  To me, it is full of clarity and resolution.  It is hard to miss details in the track with these IEM's.  I must confess I have recently become a slight treble head so that could explain it...

I am not sure why, but I seem to always be drawn to the more controversial headphones

Didn't really want this to leave the house. Really nice with the HD800S

I'm listening to balanced right now, and had an adapter made to isolate the cable in the equation. Using the DACAMP L1 as the source, the single-ended doesn't have enough power to drive the CL1, so yes, balanced is necessary in this case. For all the talk of needing to amp these headphones, the DACAMP is actually a pretty weak-sauce amp. These IEMs need some current to wake up. I just got these in, so I'll be testing for a bit longer, but if you only listened to the CL1 in single-ended off the DACAMP, you might as well have not heard them at all.

With my adaptors I tried the CL1 with the Aune M1S in both balanced and single ended, the Aune sounds good with it on both, but I haven't done any volume matched critical listening at this point. It's been basically will it play and how does it sound to this point.
