Hi I'm after some help. My wife has bought my a pair of Hifiman HE400s headphones for Christmas so I've been on the lookout for a headphone amp to connect to my hi-fi system. I haven't got a big budget and after much searching around I thought I'd settled on the Little Dot 1+, that was until I spotted a Myryad Z40 on sale for £120 which brings it to a similar price point (especially if I upgrade tubes on Little Dot). I really can't find much info on the Myryad at all, does anyone here know of this amp? I'd really appreciate the help. I'll just mention that I've found two retailers selling this and the other retailer is asking £399. Thanks

Doesn't anyone have any thoughts on this? It just seems that there's an amp being sold for up to £399 online made by a British hi-fi company going for £129, this could potentially be a bargain. I can find one review by a hi-fi mag giving it a glowing review priced at £399 but that is it, no mention elsewhere. I know the Little Dot is highly rated though. Money's tight so I only get one shot, surely someone must have an idea?

It depends if you want the tube sound or not.  The little dot is fun if you like to tinker and upgrade.  If stuff like rolling opamps and tubes, changing the volume pot, etc sound like fun, get the LD I+ for sure.  If you just want a no hassle purely solid state amp go for the other one or one of the many other budget solid state options. The one you are looking at doesn't seem very well known so that might concern me as well.

Hi WhiteKnite, thanks for the reply.

I've never actually heard a tube amp in the flesh but after reading up on them I had decided the Little Dot 1+ was the way I was going (didn't want to go over the top on price as I'm aware I'll end up changing tubes and also it sounds like it runs cooler than the Mk 2 which is kid friendly).  It's a shame there isn't much at all on the Myryad as like I said it is being sold and has been reviewed at £399 and it did seem quite favourable but like you said I'm concerened there's nothing else on this amp out there. http://www.hifichoice.co.uk/news/article/myryad-z40/23134

I'll probably go the tube route but I'll just hang fire for a couple of days in case someone else can offer some more info on this Myryad.

Did you end up getting the Myryad ?

That was a terrific bargain. If you don't know mind me asking; who was selling it  at that price?

I wish I'd known at the time as I too had read the HiFi choice review !

Think the answer I wanted was: Peter Tyson

All gone now though not suprisingly. They are still giving away a few Myryad products

Damn wish I'd known at the time; I need one of these to match my Z20 DAC; the search continues.....

Hi god-bluff, sorry for the late reply, need to check my emails more often.

Yes, you are right, it was Peter Tyson.  I held off as long as I could but I could never find anything further about the Myryad, nobody seemed to know anything so I went with the Little Dot 1+.  Bet I missed out on a right bargain.

Thanks for getting back. I think it would be a very nice amp indeed The one review I have read is very complementary.

The matching Dac which I have is a very high quality product with a wonderful smooth natural very 'British Sound' superb build and style Got it at a good price.

That only got one UK review too from by What Hifi who didn't rate it or at least didn't get it. Some foreign review really praise the DAC but even they didn't test the amp.

Both seem very versatile with lots of inputs.

Yes you should have bought one :slight_frown:I would have bought it off you
In a flash ☺
