V-MODA Forza Series: Discussion/Feedback, Reviews, Pics, etc.

Forza Wireless are now January 2017 as oppose to December 2016.  Hopefully, first week of Jan, as my son just broke my in ears using them as a rope lol

Spoke too soon as I thought they'd still hit the December target. Would rather them delay it than release a problematic product though.

A lot to be excited about here. Military-grade testing, haptic feedback, AAC and aptX support, 10+ hours of music playback and I'm assuming more than a few hours of standby as well, and of course V-MODA sound. The BLISS in-ear design is supposed to be very comfortable as well. Plus they look great! Honestly they didn't even need the wired versions, Metallo Wireless is sure to be a best-seller and an underdog in the Bluetooth in-ear category.

They're demoing Forza Metallo Wireless at CES!

Anyone there to provide first impressions?

I have been patiently waiting for these.  Customer service informed me these are still 4 to 5 weeks out.  Disappointing for sure.

Well this changes my plans a bit as I really wanted to have this mid-December. If V-MODA offered it for pre-order at a steep discount to make up for the delays that'd help tide fans over. I'm glad they're taking the time to get it right but at the same time March is quite a bit off.

I just got my Forza (wired) 3 days ago and can share some thoughts.  I am not an incredibly discerning listener, but wanted something that sounds "good".  I am coming from a pair of dinky iBeats that came with an HTC phone in 2011 and lasted far longer than I expected.  I own and love a pair of Creative Aurvana Live full-size headphones, so I knew I wanted a somewhat warm, v-shaped sound.  I used my IEMs for working out, geology field work, power tools, etc., so I wanted something durable and with at least decent isolation.  I use an android phone (spotify) as my source almost exclusively, so wanted a remote to work with that.  I am used to wearing IEMs down rather than over the ear so wanted to have that option available.

There are lots of choices in the price range...here are the others I considered and why I didn't pick 'em:
- 1more Triple Driver - large nozzle (I have small ears), low sensitivity, lots of hype and marketing but little details about construction/durability/etc.
- VSonic GR07 Bass Edition - higher price, no remote, rumored to have a flimsy cable
- Shure SE215 - remote for iphone only, replaceable but expensive and fragile cables (supposedly), lots of complaints about the bass-heavy sound, over-the-ear wear exclusively
- RHA MA750 - remote for iphone only, over-the-ear wear exclusively
- Yamaha EPH-100 - big fat thing in your ear + tiny ears = probably no good, no remote
- Dunu Titan - poor isolation, no remote
probably forgetting a few others.

So, I do love the way these sound.  Tight, clear, everything I was hoping for!  I am not qualified to give a detailed description of the sound - suffice it to say it is better in every way than the old ibeats.  It seems less warm than my CAL cans but bass is still very present and clear.

A couple minor things to note:
- they come with 4 silicone tip sizes, but there's a big space between XS and S which unfortunately includes my size.  I can't get the S in my ear, and the XS seals but falls out easily.  I've scavenged the tips from my old set so no big issue.  Always kinda wanted to try foam tips too, so...
- the remote is supposed to skip forward with a double press of the center button and skip back with a triple press, but the skipping back doesn't seem to work.  A triple press seems to skip forward erratically through the tracks.  Maybe there's a rhythm to it that I haven't figured out yet.
- the cable is definitely stiff and quite microphonic.  I'm used to wearing the cable under my shirt and it is loud and funny-feeling.  I'm sure I'll get used to the feel and figure out how to clip it to minimize the microphonics.  Haven't tried the ear hooks yet which should eliminate that.

Sorry to hear the wireless keep getting delayed for the rest of y'all.  As for the wired, I like them so far and I believe I'll love them once I get used to them.

Sweat could be the culprit.  I've had many sports oriented BT sets fail due to sweat.  Once it hits the microUSB, it's over.  Manufacturers are in a tough spot.  If they don't advertise as sweatproof, no one will buy them.  Deal breaker.

How do Forzas sound as compared to 1more triple driver?

I bought my girlfriend the Forza for Christmas and just got a Triple Driver last Friday. I have no idea how many hours the Forza has on it, but the Triple Driver is sitting around 10 hours so keep that in mind.

I just listened to the Forza for the first time literally 5 minutes ago and I'm comparing them to the Triple Driver as I write. The playlist is short and includes the following songs.

Taylor Swift - Blank Space
Adele - Rolling in the Deep
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Maroon 5 - Sugar
Lana Del Rey - Video Games

All files are 16/44.1 FLAC and being played through a Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-i717 feeding a Dragonfly Red through USB Audio Player Pro in Bit Perfect mode. Volume matching was done by ear. I'll keep these impressions brief as haven't had much ear time with either of these IEMs.

Firstly, aesthetics and nit-picks:

Forza
+Wonderful unboxing experience.
+Love the cable. Some memory, but it's pliable and feels nice in the hand.
+OMG comfort! Super light, tiny, with a barely there feel. Most comfortable in-ears I've ever used.
+Easy to insert and find a seal. No ear pulling, head leaning fits here. Truly plug and play.

-Microphonics. Over ear draping and shirt clip alleviates this, but it's there.
-The 3.5mm jack. It's huge. I love V-MODA's jack design on their stand-alone audio cables. What happened to that design? It still beats a straight plug at least.

Triple Driver
+Even more wonderfuller unboxing experience.
+These looks sexy. Fit and finish from the IEMs to the box presentation to the case and accessories scream "premium."
+UNIVERSAL PLAYBACK CONTROLS! No, not universal in that "Yes, you can pause/play and change volume on iOS and on Android you can pause/play and have two useless buttons in case you're the fidgety type," universal. True universal controls. How the flipping funk does 1More do this on IEMs for under $100 while the more experienced players, like V-MODA and Sennheiser, release 2 VERSIONS of the same IEM with individualized controls for each OS? Figure it out!

-/+The fit. Sometimes it's easy to get a seal and sometimes it's not. Comfortable overall, but requires adjustment from time to time.

-Hate the cable. It's stiff and springy and NEVER FORGETS.
-Microphonic. Microphonic. Microphonic. These weren't designed to be worn over ear, but I have to wear them over ear even if that means placing that beautiful universal playback control right behind my ear. Unless I'm sitting cross-legged on the floor eating sour cream doughnuts, straight down is a no-no.
-The 3.5mm jack is straight. For at home full-sized headphones plugged into a desktop amp, sure, but for portable use this should no longer be a thing.

And onto the sound:

Forza

I am a self professed V-MODA fanboy. V-80, M-100, XS - Mine, mine, mine. I know what to expect with V-MODA, strong, clean bass, and smooth, non-fatiguing highs. Mids vary between the on-ear and over-ear models with the V-80 and XS offering a bassy but neutral sound while the M-100 gives a more pronounced V-shaped signature with more sub bass and sparkly extended highs. Reading the reviews here I was expecting the Forza to be an in-ear XS, but that's not what I heard at all. Out of all my IEMs, the Forza sounds most similar to the Mee Audio A151p 2nd Gen. If you're not familiar with the A151p, just know that those are about as neutral as I'm willing to get before I fall out of the hammock snoring. Good, quick bass that doesn't dig very deep, pronounced midrange, and polite treble that rolls off smooth as David Belle doing parkour. Take that sound sig, add some sub bass, turn up the mid bass and then stretch those highs as far as your fingertips can reach and then relax a bit and you get the Forza sound. The Forza is the most neutral V-MODA product to date. They are so neutral that played side-by-side with the Triple Driver they might even come off as dull, but this is only in comparison.

Triple Driver

Sadly, this is not my first triple-driver hybrid IEM. My Dunu DN-2000j fell out of my pocket when I went to see Rouge One and was never seen or heard from again. You will be missed you expensive bastards. The sound of the Triple Driver is almost the opposite of the 2000j in that it offers a big bass presence with a less emphasized treble. If you were to ask me what I expected the Forza - or the V-MODA Zn - to sound like without me ever trying them, I would describe something akin to the 1More Triple Driver. Sorry -MODA but 1More stole your V. Nice rumbly bass, detailed mids and sizzling highs that never get sibilant. In one word, exciting! Music just sounds more engaging on the Triple Driver than the Forza and all those details! Details everywhere without the sharp treble spikes of death like the 2000j. I don't know if more burn-in will change things much, but if I had to choose based on what I'm hearing now, it's Triple Driver. I daresay it resembles a more neutral tuning of the M-100 with better mids and highs. Soundstage on the Triple is bigger too which is probably due to the ported design.
