In the end I prefer to just use my best dac- why settle for anything less when you're working and earning more money?

The hd800S and Pmx2 are both great complimentary options. I have both. The hd800S has superb imaging and sounstaging and the smooth tonality on the pmx2 is unmatched.

...get both and sell the akg?

As much as I'd like to, there is only so much money to go around. My photography hobby is another expensive one :frowning2:

Being a long time akg owner and having tried many high end headphones, I can confidently say the hd800 is the right direction to move up from the 700 series. The t1 did not provide enough improvements to justify the extra cost imo. I have not heard the k812 so that is another possibility
