So recently I've started to hear a constant white/static noise from my PC in my headphones and it's really annoying...
I've got a Xonar Essence STX II paired up with a pair of DT990 Pro (250 ohms). I've tried to mute the mic as well as the sound but I still hear it! It's really f-ing annoying!!
If anyone has any ideas please tell me, it would be really appreciated. Oh and sometimes it's quite but for most of the times, I hear it.
It ruins my lovely music :(

Cheers

My guess is that Windows updated and the driver for the STX needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled.

Are you using Windows?

You can also try rolling back the driver.

If you are not using Windows then try checking the output settings for bit depth and set it to 16 bit first then try 24 bit. The same goes for the sample rate settings.

Hey, sorry for the late reply and thank you for posting. I am running Windows 10.

I'll try reinstalling the drivers 'cause that's the only solution I haven't tried. I'll try it right now and see if it'll work. I'll edit this post if it works.

I tried all sorts of bit depths and sample rates but still the same thing. Right now I'm running 24 bit 48 khz

Have you tried re-routing interconnects/cables ? Do you have a powerhungry gfx card right next to the Xonar ? Using cellular internet connection ?

The only cable that's connected to it is a 6-pin to Molex. Should I try to change the cable?

I have a GTX 1070 (that consumes around 120-140w under load) riiight underneath it. There's like a 5 mm headroom between them lol.

No, I am not :)

Just to add: after reinstalling the UNi drivers I noticed the sound now sounds in both ears and isn't a white noise. Now it's like having tinnitus.

Are you running Interconnects from the soundcard ? Or just headphones directly from the card ? Reason I ask - is that the interconnect or headphone cable could be picking up EMI - try re-routing those cables . Answer could be shielded cables .

Also , is there another slot for the gfx card further away from the STXII ?

No. I am running my DT990 directly from the sound card. And also, I don't believe the problem would be the cable, to be honest. Don't have an argument but I still do not believe it is xD

I think the reason I put them like this was because the second PCIe slot was/is dead. But I'll try again.

Let us know how that goes .

I had a similar problem , which is now less severe than before , but I still hear a very quiet crackling buzz . I overclock my PC and adjust all voltages manually , after setting everything to " Auto " ( except cpu , ram and qpi voltages ) things seem to have improved . I suppose I have to try default settings now . Got good hardware , psu etc.

Do you hear it with another set of headphones in the same spots in music as with the Dt990?

If not there might be some debris like a hair stuck on the driver which just needs to be removed or vacuumed out.

Thank you, for taking your time to write.
I thought of that as well. I just moved the gpu to the second pcie slot as well as change to another molex connector. I haven't noticed anything yet but we'll see tomorrow. If it's still there I'll try to change headphones.

I moved my STX to the slot closest to CPU and Gfx card to the 3rd PciE slot - the noise is softer , but still there .

I now have both changed the gpus pcie slot and changed the molex connector and so far I haven't heard anything I think. I'll post again as to update you guys if it really works. Thanks for all the help so far! Really appreciate it.

Wow ! I just solved my noise problem - woo-hoo ! It was the extention kettle plug going to the power supply - it has driven me mad recently . I dis-assembled my pc , cleaned every part , de-oxyed the fans , swopped them , and to no avail . Now it's solved - I shall imminently dance a jig to sweet tunes . :)
