Hello. I'm obviously new here, though this isn't my first time posting here, but I'm already enjoying the helpful, friendly community this site has to provide. I'm from New York, and I used to be one of those people that thought Bose was the best brand out there, and forked out good amounts of money to buy them (My last one was OE2 I believe). A few months ago I received a pair of AKG K550s as a gift, and I couldn't believe the sound quality I've been missing, and got me hooked after a few hours of stress testing them. Now I'm on a crusade for better sound quality and beginning the audiophile journey. Of course I have much to learn, but it's probably going to be worth it.

Wellcome!

Owning and using headphones for 20 years before finding Head-Fi was a surprise. I thought, oh, these folks are way, way into it. Still I was surprised to learn all the detailed information here.

There is no right or wrong way to do it, and everyone seems to find a sound they like. Going from Bose to AKG is a stark contrast as the two companies have their own house sound which ends up very different. Bose has kind of a warm bass on much of their headphones where AKG has more details in the treble and less bass on some models. One of the best parts of this is getting improvement. At times impromptu changes of equipment can result in surprises too.

Best to give your money and cards to a trusted family member for safe keeping?

This was the headphone I purchased first after finding this place.

Thank you!

Hahahaha. Somehow I doubt nothing short of a 3'8" safe would keep the money safe, and I'd probably carry the entire safe to the shop. :D

If AKG K550's sound is anything to indicate about their house sound, I'm genuinely interested in getting more headphones from them. Honestly I'm interested to explore other brands myself, and I've been already been suggested some excellent selections. I'm aiming for more detail and realism in my sound, with as much neutral (I know 100% neutral may not be possible) sound as possible, without any overwhelming bass, especially as I listen to classical music often.
