Always love reading this forum and now I need a little help.

Have used a pair of ATH-M50 for a couple years now on my PC for gaming and listening to music. I have external DAC Fiio E10K. I have been perfectly happy with the setup.

This week at work I won a pair of Beats Studio Wireless headphones. The question is how do the Beats compare to the M50s? Are they are better set? I know some might say just try them on, but I would rather not break the seal on the Beats if I am going to sell them. Looks like they sell for about $150 on the used market.

I listen to electronic and hip-hop exclusively and the wireless is not needed.

I actually own a pair of beats studio wireless and I really like them. I can't really fully give my opinion on the m50x, but I tried them once and I was unimpressed. The beats don't have much of a soundstage, and the mids are pretty pushed back, but overall they are really, really good. Comparatively they are also $380 full retail and you can get them for $250 new, so they are technically in a different price bracket, but overall I don't think you will be disappointed. For the price you got them (especially at free) they should be awesome. If you like a good amount of mid bass and a v-shaped sound signature you should like them.
Any questions you have about them feel free to ask me. I have probably over 400 hours of head time on them.

Hmm...with that I opened them up, sound decent with my iPhone BUT plugged into Fiio E10K on the PC and turning volume up distorts. Not good.
The reason is that they have no passive mode. They will distort unless you use them standalone. Do not plug them into anything that will give them a lot of power or they will sound like trash. I've found just plugged into your phone or in Bluetooth mode sounds best.
