FiiO X1 II (2nd Gen) w/ Bluetooth!
Jan 13, 2017 at 3:30 AM Post #1,891 of 3,121
So I plan to keep this short. I picked up the X1 (2nd gen) last month and I was really excited. After listening to mp3s and FLACs on it for a week or two I couldn't convince myself that I was enjoying my music. Very honestly, I just didn't like the sound profile the X1 offered. For me it's too neutral and unexciting. Tweaking the EQ didn't help much either. I tested with two of my IEMs - Sennheiser Momentums IE2 and Klipsch R6. Also tested the player through "line-out" in my car - (Focal speakers all around). Definitely sounded better in the car as compared to my earphones but it just didn't excite me or made me happy. This might sound strange to many, but I actually enjoy listening to music through my HTC One M7 (using player pro app)
Also, usability wise the device feels slow especially when you are used to smartphones. The display resolution also feels outdated. So I've returned my X1 and now I plan to pick up the RHA MA750s and use them with my HTC One

Hi @FiiO
I'm happy to do whatever i can to help :)

Btw, noticed a few more things/bugs(currently i'm using the latest firmware 1.5.3)

1.it takes quite some time for the player to resume from sleep mode, especially when on Bluetooth mode.
when I tried to resume from sleep in bluetooth mode, it took the player about 14 seconds to resume playing(mostly took time to enable bluetooth again and then go back to playing music).
Also wanted to note that i've tried the X1ii with my Jaybird X2's and they paired with the X1ii without any problem and that the in line controls worked great(not only bugs :) )

2.I left my X1ii running with music on and had to go for an hour or so, when i got back, i've noticed that the blue LED was still on(something that can drain the battery).
When i tried to wake to player, it wouldn't wake up and i had to restart the player in order to be able to use it again.
I don't think it matters, but that was with wired headphones and bluetooth disabled.

Hope this helps.

Have a great day,
Maor

Dear Maor,

Thank you for your kind feedback to us.

For the first issue you mentioned, I will report to the software team about that and we will try to improve it.

For the second issue, it seems your X1II is frozen because of some reasons. Can you still hear sound coming from it?

Best regards

Hi FiiO.

No, i can't hear anything. the X1ii has to be restarted in order to work again, and yesterday it happend again twice.
Still testing to see if it happens again/if i'll find some other bugs.

Thank you for your reply,

Disabled the scroll wheel press function after a few days to to its high sensitivity to accidental touch. Good attempt on trying to improve user's experience though.

Somehow I felt that this DAP was released in a rush without proper soak testing. And as an early adopter, I felt like a guinea pig to be soak testing. I had to voice out because I PAID. Just my two cents on this matter. Although the economy is pretty competitive. I believe with a reputation that fiio has held through the years, shouldn't be tarnished just to justify its sales.

Please do better in your next DAP. On the bright side, I really appreciate the gradual assistance on the DAP from @FiiO.

I found the press function too sensitive also. Tried it for a couple of days but using the scroll wheel always ended with the press function being activated.

On the 1.5.3 Firmware go to the Settings, find 'Scroll wheel press function' option and set it to 'Off'. This will disable wheel press functionality.

Good find! I'll also check this today.
About your second question: yes, long press on the volume buttons does change the song on the any lockscreen type.

P.S. Can someone please recommend a Tag changing application for the Windows (Win 10)?

  Dear gbr7,

Thank you for your feedback. Ok, if you have more discovery, please feel free to contact us.

This is designed to act like that in order to be the same as X1 1st gen. But we may consider whether changing it in the future.

Best regards
Best

Hi George P. and FiiO,

Two discoveries:

1) Adding genre tags did NOT change anything. There's still a discrepancy of about 4,500 songs between the "About X1" menu and the "All Songs" menu.

2) Tiny files ARE showing up under "All Songs", I discovered while listening to my library on Shuffle. A 181kb song came on in the sequence.

Still confused and a bit disappointed...anyone else have any hunches about why these songs aren't showing up?

I have also tried adding every possible tag and also downsizing album covers, but nothing has changed.

Lesson to learn from X1-II

Having followed this thread from the start I have come to an inextricable conclusion.  Never purchase a first generation product from Fiio.  In this case first generation being the first Fiio DAP with the new linux based OS.  Clearly Fiio has alot of work to do to make this new OS a usable and stable platform going forward.    Assuming the X3-III will also have this new OS we can only hope that Fiio has learned alot from their issues with the X1-II.  I for one am glad I did not take the plunge on this one and I hope that the presumably better hardware on the next gen X3 will handle the new OS better.

What headphones are you using.  That will determine the need for an external amp.

I'm feeling the exact same way. I almost but the bullet and just bought one last week, but the problems people are still facing don't seem like they'll be fixed for a long time. I think I'm going to pick up the X3ii and not even wait for the X3iii, especially if it's going to face the same type of issues at launch.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a X1, X3II, or X5II. One thing I've learned with FiiO is wait and don't buy a new to the market DAP. Too many bugs and not everything works the way it's suppose to. Eventually they get it working, but no one knows how long it will take. The X7 is still a work in progress and it's been out for a little over a year. Once again, beta testing in house would go a long way IMO, but FiiO sees that differently than me I guess.
