Looking in market for some new headphones. I like some good vocal sounding headphones. I have a few recommended to me already but i cannot decide between them
Audio Technica ATH-AD700X $78
Beyerdynamics DT-660 $80
Sennheiser HD 518 $80
Audio Technica ATH-M40x $99
Sennheiser HD 558 $99
Sennheiser HD 598 $150
Beyerdynamics Custom Pro Plus $150
Audio-Technica ATH-M50X $165
I have heard that the Sennheiser HD 558 and 598 are using the same drivers and the sound quality is almost identical. Is this correct?
Which one is the best one for its price?

I own the Sennheiser HD598, and I think it is very good with vocals, effortless and natural. I would prefer that over ATH-M50 for vocals. Sennheiser 558 and 598 are known to have similar sound quality, which is quite different than 518. 518 is bass heavy with some rolled off treble. 558 has slightly enhanced bass and a slightly smaller soundstage compared to 598 (I haven't heard the 558 myself). It is said, the 558 can be made to sound like 598 by removing a piece of foam from inside the earcups. Sennheiser 598s were on sale a few months back on Amazon for about $100. I don't really know about the other ones.

Some of the headphones you have selected are open. Some are closed. Open headphones offer better soundstage, but little or no isolation from your environment and leak sound. Make sure open are for you.

The Soundmagic HP200 are another open headphone to consider in your budget range and their HP150 for a closed headphone.

I think you would be pretty happy with the 598 or the 700X, both of them have excellent sound stage as they are open back, and both contain good bass with large drivers. So I think your really left with just a choice of style, which style now do you prefer.

Between the 558 or the 700X, which one has the better build quality? They are both priced the same.

To answer your question, I think the 700X might have a slight better build quality due to the metal on it, however thats comparing to the 558. I recommended the 598 due to its large driver size, larger padding in the headband for long term comfortability. And the 598 uses different cup padding material. And the 598 has a metal mesh on the backs of them. I think the 598 is maybe better build quality over the 700x. But if comparing to the 558, I think the 700X is going to win hands down on durability.

Thanks, but the 598 is $50 more than the 558, so if the sound quality is the same then I'd like to save that $50. I will be using them indoors so open or closed it really doesn't matter. What I'm looking for in the headphones is just very lively and fun to listen to modern songs while having very clear vocals since most of the songs i listen to are either ballad or like house/electronic/bass type ballad? and pop. What about the ATH M50x or M40x? They are one of the most popular and recommended headphones it seems.

I have recommended those headphones as well, its usually to people looking for a closed back headphone that sounds good, but isn't really into super bass. I personally think that you would like them, they have excellent clarity and vocals should come through well on those, they are especially tuned for those who do like rock music. So, if you don't listen to a lot of RAP, RNB, Dubstep, I think you would like them, but they do cost a bit more then 100 dollars though, just so you know. They won't be as durable as the 700X, but like you say, if your using them in doors and careful not to drop them, they should be good.

I also like a lot of headphones which have removable cables, I wished my headphones had a removable cable, but for some reason JVC decided to not put them on their flagship models, strange I know. Anyways, hopefully I've been helpful to you.

Is this the M40 or M50? I don't listen to rock or dubstep. M40x is being sold for $99 where as M50x is being sold at $150.

Refurbished  however should be fine, for like 128 dollars, like I said, just a little more above 100

Oh, I forgot to tell you, the 40X has a smaller driver, so expect even less bass, I really wouldn't recommend the 40x unless you don't care about bass.
