Yes, why?

Perhaps there's huge price and performance difference but too much expectation from those particular Koss cans.

Just noticed that many more people have voted on the poll! Guess our shenanigans paid off to get strangers to participate.

I actually prefer some Koss headphones over even STAX sometimes, though not most of the time. This one is insanely detailed and reminds me of the HD 800 in some ways. I'm hearing stuff I never noticed at all before in some recordings, including new instruments! I'm sure the brightness contributes to that, but there are also more meaningful things like instrument separation, imaging, articulation, and so on. I'll see what it's really capable of once I equalize it for a few hours...

Keep in mind that as you said, "brightness contributes to that" and perhaps much of the experience might be an illusion at the expense of other things. You really need to do a quick turnaround A/B of the different cans to know what's really going on.

I do believe the greatest variance is due to the quantity and strength of the coffee consumed.

Moar coffee and/or moar stronger = Lots moar plankton heard.

Perhaps he needs to go hirez with a finer grind.

I wish. Not much of a choice where I am currently. Later on though I'll get a proper setup for sure. But like I said, I need to find something for just coffee instead of espresso. Otherwise I'd be making a lot of americanos. XD

You'll have to find a way to make due or fall asleep mid day.

Wake up sleepy heads. I'm already on my second helping, each has two shots of espresso, as usual.
Running low on beans, I'll be off to the store tomorrow.
