Hi all,

I'm researching options for a new office computer audio setup going for hopefully less than $500.  I use Windows 10 on my office computer.

Looking for a DAC/audio interface that has balanced outputs so it can feed monitors like the JBL LSR305 that only have 1/4" TRS and XLR inputs.   Will mainly listen to music through the monitors.

Thinking the Audient ID4 & JBL LSR305 might be a good combo.

Any opinions/recommends would be much appreciated!

The Audient ID4 is super new.  Might anyone have heard one yet?

The LSR 305s are great speakers.

Don't know anything about the Audient ID4. Looks like it was just launched, so not really reviews. But Sweetwater buyers seem to like the ID14 model :)

Focusrite is a popular audio interface with balanced connections: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlet2i2G2

I use iFi Nano iDSD with LSR305s in a very very small room, for 2 weeks, they sound mindblowingly good, not fatigue at all, I even used +2 on highs. I'm not feeling that much bass because I'm too close to them, but when I'm go 5-6 meters from them, they shine on bass, they hit harder and clearer than the 6.5 subwoofer I had on a samsung soundbar. I hear almost every frequency of bass ("almost" because I'm not an audiophile and I don't have a treated room for them), the same thing that SVS PB-1000 bring to the sound after I got it. I cannot hear port noise, maybe they have but maybe on specific songs, I didn't tested this aspect. Any speaker with a reflex port should have some sort of port noise.
They sound very natural, female voice is stunning.
The problem with them is that you reach their limit pretty fast and having this good DAC, you won't even notice that you cranked them too much. I even got them clipping for a second and it was not that high volume, well the volume on the DAC goes way beyond the capabilities of the JBLs.
In my case, they do have some sort of self noise only at 100% and at 80% it disappears and even at 100%, you won't hear it from 2 meters away.

I didn't wanted a speaker with crossover below 2khz. I found out after I bought 305s that they have 1500hz crossover which kinda sucks, but they sound so good, I cannot believe they have 1500hz crossover, practically this tweeter plays bass like no other, I guess they did this to let the driver go lower because is harder for a speaker to go low and high at the same time and that's why midrange drivers in floorstanders can go even to 4khz if they play only above 150hz or even 300hz+.
