Hey guys, i am looking for open back headphones and currently sennheiser hd598 seems the only choice. Are there any other better headphones in the same price range and what about the sound as compared to athm50x which i am currently using. I am not a basshead but a liltle is always better i guess. And i listen to all type of music just not hip hop, raps kinda music.

I'm not sure about other headphones in this range, though I can attest to and recommend the hd598s. They are very comfortable and have great sound quality, though they are a very neutral headphone, and won't have that little bit of extra bass you want.

Also check out the Akg k7xx does they are a little more expensive about $200. But they are worth it. However if you want to save some cash The akg k240 our new on eBay for $41.99 with free shipping heck of a deal got my pair on the way

You could look into Soundmagic HP 200. Much better bass presence than that of Senn HD598s. They are neutral and detailed, bit bright but the bass is spectacular, not a basshead headphone though, just very accurate, punchy and can go really low. I doubt they'd be brighter than the Grados, but I've only heard the sr80es so can't speak for the 225s.

If it doesn't have to be open back I'd recommend the Soundmagic HP 100s which are cheaper and fantastic value.

598 is not good at all for the kind of music you listen to. For hip-hop/rap go for closed ones with good soundstage. If you like M50 then you will love MSR7. The soundmagic mentioned above is also good.
