My main cans are Sennheiser HD650s, but I still have my 30 year old HD450's from when I worked in broadcasting. The right channel has distortion. I changed around the cord and the distortion appears to be in the driver and not the cord.

Does anyone know what other Sennheiser's used the same driver as the 450? Restoring these is more a labor of love than practicality.

Well, I picked up a pair of HD480 drivers on Ebay. They have a great sound but are substantially harder to push than my standard HD450s. I believe the 450s were a 50 ohm set and these 480's appear to be either 600 or 1700 ohms. They do sound really good, but my little O2 really complains while feeding sound through them. The HD650s are much louder at a given volume level.

The sound is much richer on the 480's. My 450's were very midrangy. Both the Bass and Treble are better on the 480s.

Just curious about others that may have these cans. I first got my 450's in early 90s,
